some of those nuts and bolts look a little gnarly. i think you need to do some kind of plating. :)

Awesome build.

I love the old doll house in the background. New toy now.

I love it, my daughter is 6 years old and she already loves to work with me on our 3.2L Carrera. I promised to teach her how to do it on her own. Thanks!

More info from the cheap seats on the arp bolts..... the ARP instructions (3.0 L SC rebuild) indicated 50 ft lbs or stretch gauge to 0.095 - 0.10 .
since we split the case ,were able to use a stretch guauge to 0.10. We thenchecked one rod bolt with a digital torque wrench and it checked out 51.3 ft lbs. Suggest a deeper dive on your build ,again from the cheap seats to verify your rods/bolts are ok @ 40 ft lbs,. I'm no expert, but nows the time check and double check this step. also my compliments ,Great build ! |
so are you giving the Eastwood pc kit a thumbs up? those parts you did first try don't look too bad!

I did that metal mount that goes at the back of the engine and around the pulley. It was really fugly with grease and rust. I sent it thru the ultrasonic cleaner, the blast cabinet and then powder coated it this morning before cleaning up the garage. I used a black crinkle finish and it came out pretty good. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps1g1ike8u.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps04uqvwem.jpg Rods Bolts: The 3.2 uses 9mm (not the 10mm 3.0 size) Rod Bolts and ARP recommends 40 Ft. Lbs with their super slippery moly lube that they include with the kt. |
I'm about to do the same job. Assuming you had the original cylinders bored and Nikasil plated, who did the work?
|
We were able to buy a set already done to 3.4. If I were to have them done, i have used Millenium before on my motorcycles and some one here has recommended US Chrome as well.

This is AWESOME! The color scheme looks amazing

No real work this past 2 weeks. Allie is at her home in DC working on her car building budget as I continue to do the grunt and dirty work!! She get's the glory, I gets dirty....
Valve covers are done top and bottom. Sanding the raised portions isn't particularly original but it makes the parts look a bit better. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psr0ct4t45.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps5opueoce.jpg The ultrasonic cleaner has been working hard this week. I have the trans apart and have been stripping that down for inspection. I have done a few pieces so far but the worst and hardest to clean would have been the side cover. It was really filthy, particularly in the ends and small areas. A lot of built up trash from the road. 30 minutes in the cleaner and BOOM all clean. NO hand work done at all and the water/dawn dish detergent in the cleaner is looking very ugly. Still soapy and bubbly so still effective. I have not used my mineral spirits cleaner since getting the UT cleaner. I do NOT miss the fumes and splashing of the cleaner onto my clothes. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psw1npcgro.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...pspl18n2qx.jpg |
Have you tried TSP? I have been using it with good results lately.
Have you considered a Carrera side plate. Might help contain that 3,4s torque. |
Here I am setting mine up on my mag case trans.

TSP is strong stuff and I find that the water and Dawn solution is doing a great job so far. Could be faster I guess but I'm in no hurry usually.
I have not looked at the carrera side cover. Time for some research! |
Man baby that's your new nickname

Love this post. You are my Hero Allie!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Way to go Allie! I hope one of my daughters helps me do my rebuild.

Great thread.
How many proposals of marriage has Allie got, since you started the thread? Here is one from Germany. Just kidding. Sometimes my daughter helps me, too. But I doubt, if she will go so far, like Allie. Now she is fourteen years old. So I have some hope. I´m rebuilding a 3,0 SC engine. But I´m not so far, as you. Have much fun and success Thomas http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430572536.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430572565.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430572589.jpg |
Thomas,
Looks good!! She has had ne serious proposals yet... She has ha hard time with boys (men??) her age as they like to work on their cars too. The put on LED washer nozzles, 10,000 watt amps and plastidip their wheels. When Allie talks about doing a timing belt on her 944, welding in new panels on our 68 Mini project and now building her own 911 engine they get a bit intimidated. She has been the garage rat since little but all 4 of my girls know their way around the garage. It isn't easy but they can get into it. all of your daughters want to spend time with their dad, so find things to do together and let them really do some of the work. Make it fun and have to radio playing top 40 music. You will go nuts but they will love it. It's the way to build a better daughter!! |
