				005 2.0S mfi pump on a 2.2E?

Morning gents. I have the opportunity to get a '005' 2.0S mfi pump in a trade. I have a stock 2.2E motor with it's original mfi pump ('010') Question is what are the options for using the 005 pump? Will it only really work on a 2.0S spec engine? If I decide to build a 2.2S spec engine (pistons, cams, ports etc) will the 005 pump be of any use or am I better off keeping the original 2.2E spec pump ('010') on the engine and building more oomph around it? Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what pump cam changes are necessary to get more performance / achieve a higher factory spec. And the books are a bit thin on getting more performance out of a 2.2E! Thanks in advance. Matthew

I think the 2.0S would probably work a little better than the 2.2E if you were to build a 2.2S, in theory the engine cams are pretty similar so the fuel curve should be a similar shape and you'd just bump it up by 10%. Otherwise you should keep the E pump with the E.

Thanks Flieger. Assuming then that the rods, crank, cylinders and heads from the E will stay, joined with S pistons, 2.0 S pump and S cams? Throwing in a lightweight flywheel and it should be a screamer!

Hopefully an actual expert will chime in like 356RS (Mark Jung).

What's your main reason to go to an S spec Engine, more power? Many Porsche elders I ve spoken with over the years, agreed the E spec car was much more realistic to drive day to day from a power delivery, the S was much more work and need high revs all the time to really make it perform, many older articles I've read from the era of 69-73 also agreed the E spec'd motor was an all around better driver... just something to consider... if you want, do a search for older literature on this topic... may be surprising what you turn up..

S cams are fun in their own way. Like waiting for a turbo to kick in.

Thanks for the advice. Reason for S spec is that a mate has a stock 70 S. That top end wail is addictive. The S spec'd E (budget allowing) will go into a lightened 67 912 that I'm in the process of DIY resurrecting, so having to a less practical motor kind of goes with the theme. My SC gives me daily thrills without the drama.
