Angry ignore thread. New one started starter keeps running with key out.

I put a new hi torque starter in during my engine rebuild. I have the battery and alternator wire to the large post, the two yellow wires to a piggyback spade connector to the single spade connector. 12+ volts to the terminal. ~4+ volts to the other terminal. No sound at all when ignition to start. Could it be the ignition switch?

You have an SC with a yellow and a yellow/ stripe blue wire connection on the starter.
The stripe blue goes on the lower tag on the starter.

There is only one spade connector on the starter. Do you mean the striped wire goes on the bottom tab of the piggyback connector?

I didn't read the new starter.
Try putting the old starter back in, wire it correctly
New doesn't mean good

Shorted the starter solonoid and the starter works. Now checking the ignition switch. What a bear...

Extatic...kind of now starter won't disengage even wit key out???

Thanks. I'm taking the ignition switch out to check the out put voltage to the solonoid (per Joe Bob on the tech forum) Checked the ground (per MetalDoc), but only on the car end. I'll take the trans end off and re clean that too.

So - from nothing to starter won't stop turning over even with key removed. Now what?
I tightened the negative battery post and tried the key again and it fired (fuel pump relay removed), but wouldn't stop until I removed the two wires from the solonoid. I've seen this somewhere before but can't find the post...I searched using Google but couldn't find the thread. Help please. Thanks.

Is your 14 pole female connector from the engine harness positioned right (fully in ) ?
We had a customer with the same problem and the connector was not properly connected.
Its easier to measure if there's 12volt on your ignition switch where the tunnel harness connects to the main harness (behind the dash, a small yellow lead coming from the 6 pole female connector)
