Did I screw something up?
Here is where I have set my engine's timing:
![]() I was going through my Bentley manual on Sunday and I came across something the suggested TDC Z1 was at the mark to the right and the 15 degree mark was the one in the left. How can that be if (1) when I rotated the crank shaft with the heads off the left mark on the pulley is where the piston was at is highest point before it started pulling back in (2) when I pulled the cap on the distributor the mark on the rotor was dead even with the mark on the housing (3)when I checked the rocker arms after adjusting the valves and #1 was at TDC the rocker had a slight amount of play and the #4 was dead tight (4) when I look inside the the plug hole I can see the top of the piston and watch it go down into the cylinder? Is it possible that the Bentley manual is wrong on where TDC is located on the pulley?

The pulley is stamped Z1 at the TDC mark on the face of the pulley.

15 degrees will be to the right because it's in advance of Z1.
The 2 holes in the pulley should be vertical Carrera pulleys are not stamped with Z1. Bruce |

A little dab of white paint in the pulley groove makes it easier to see with a timing light.
