DIY Cleaning Soluion Recipe for Parts Washer

Got a good recipe for a DIY el cheapo parts washing solution?

I've been using a 50/50 mix of diesel and "odourless" mineral spirits. I can't find kerosene anywhere near me, but I guess diesel is close enough.

It cleans the parts pretty good, but it stinks up the house (which I can live with) and it also leaves the tiniest bit of an oily residue.

FWIW I am using a $100 Harbor Freight parts washer which, although it says water based solutions only, is working great.

I find that pairing this solution with a well-hopped IPA works best. Dogfish Head 90 or Sierra Nevada Hopsecutioner.

I will probably give everything a final spray in Coleman Fuel if I can find anyone that carries that any more.

The latest addition to my parts washer just arrived today: a filter for an oil fired boiler. It's designed to filter diesel fuel and its filter elements are cheap. I'm going to plumb it in the pump outlet.

For the solvent I'm using high flash point Cleaning solvent from Tractor Supply.

Ultrasonic cleaner. Uses water and Dawn detergent. No fuss, no muss, no bad smells.

How well does it work with coke and other baked on deposits?

Check this thread.

Excellent Part Cleaner

It won't remove the hardened stuff on a piston top. But it cuts thru most other stuff. I have had to do only 2-3 parts 2 times thru.
