911 engine vs 914 engine specifics needed

I am looking for specifics that differentiate a 1969 - 1972 911 engine, a "T" engine vs what came in these same yrs in a 914-6...
I realize a 914-6 engine would be a type 901/36 stamped by the fan schroud base...
I also realize both the 911T & 914-6 engine would have weber carbs...
any & all visual & internal differences would be greatly appreciated...
thx, bob

First, the 901/36 will be stamped along with engine number on the flat near the thermostat
The 914/6 motor is basically a 69 T spec motor. The heads are 2.0 style heads with casting dates 1970/71.
Engine oil cooler bottom attachment is under the cooler to clear the trailing arms of 914
The motor mount is a single verticle bolt with 2 heavy rubber mounts

'70 to '71 Ts were 2,2 liter. 914s were 2,0. Most 911 Ts had Zenith carbs. In '72 the 911s went to 2,4 liters, fuel injection, and counterweighted cranks. As Bruce noted, the 911 heads were improved in '70.

thx guys.... so... aside from the #'s on the outside of the 914-6 case, in the same place as 911's, is there any other visual clues...?
Also, from what is said here, am i to understand that the 914-6 engine stayed the same all of its yrs it was made (1969-1972)... = it stayed as a 1969 2.0T six cylinder engine...?
Was the 914-6 a "cheaply" built motor vs the 911's 6 cylinder engine...? = less durable something inside the engine...? = less durable connecting rods, or less durable something...?
thx, bob

I mentioned the numbers are NOT in the same place.
It was not a cheaply built motor. By design, it was a. 69 T.

I think the 914/6 also used the 911T rear suspension and brakes.
I drove one from Huntington Beach, California to West Palm Beach, Florida once and they are really fun cars. Took I-10 the whole way.

They handle really well and the sound of the 911 motor right behind the firewall bulkhead behind the seats is soooo nice.

The T motors from 69 - 71 had cast iron cylinders and cast non-counterweighted cranks. Rods were the same, except for some of the S rods. Displacement on the 911s went from 2,0 to 2,2 in 70 and to 2,4 in 72. Also the 2,2 and later cylinder heads had bigger valves.

Most of these details are outlined in Bruce Anderson's book.

What are your plans? If you let us know what you are doing, we may be able to offer more help.

The case casting numbers of the 914-6 are different. Dave Pateman has a chart of what they. I recently discovered a 914-6 casting is the same number as a 69S.

Not possible. The rear suspension on a 914 (any variety) is quite a bit different than that found on a 911 from the same era.

Bob,
I'll look it up when I get home. I've been flying all day.

914 rear suspension is unique to the car. Rear brakes are off a bus. Front susiension and brakes are 911ish.

Unfortunately the rear brakes are not the same as a bus. 914-4 brakes are relatively common and not hard to get but 914-6 brakes have a larger piston bore and are unique to the 914-6; very similar to the Ferrari 308 rear brakes but with the bleeder valve in a different location.

I think all 911 cranks are forged, even the non counterweight version used in early T engines.
