2.4L T cam upgrade - what else is needed?
Apologies in advance if this has already been covered. I have tried searching everything I could think of and couldn't find what I was looking for.
I have a 2.4L 911T engine that has been freshly rebuilt (prior to my purchase) top and bottom end. Pistons are 1mm oversize higher compression pushing the CR up to 9.4:1 with compression readings of 190-195 psi on all cylinders. Dyno results from the engine build show 160hp. It has the stock T cams along with the stock heads, throttle bodies and MFI pump. I'd like to swap to E cams (or similar). From what I've read this is the best bang for the buck upgrade for a street 2.4L engine besides increased compression, which I already have. I'm not interested in increasing displacement since the engine is freshly rebuilt. What else, if anything, needs to be changed to go along with the E cam swap? Can the stock T spec MFI pump handle the change or do I need to change to an E space cam? What about valve sizes and throttle body port sizes? Were T and E valves and TBs the same diameters? I know S ports and TBs were larger, but would be too large for E cams. |

There are indeed differences between the E and T throttle bodies and stacks. Mr. Butler provides a great chart in this post about the differences.
The MFI pump is optimized for the OEM intake, displacement, compression and cam profile. To get the most out of your changes, I would think you'd need to adjust the pump. I dunno if that means a recurved space cam. There are experts here that can wade in on that.

My understanding is that you can go up roughly one cam size and still use the existing mfi. T to E. E to S. Etc. So you should be ok just changing out the cams. The valves are all the same from 2.2 - 2.7 motors. You could port the heads but that would only make a difference on the top end. Your motor should respond nicely with just a simple cam change.
Edit: forgot to mention. Yes. You will need to tune the mfi to the new engine spec. ****** Make sure you check your valve clearance when you install new cams. *****
