Engine Shroud Painting

With everything looking so clean and pretty with the rebuild, my red engine shroud appears a bit tattered. Has anyone painted their shroud? If so what kind of paint and how well did it last?
Thanks

The red is gel-coat. You should be able to sand and polish it to a nice bright finish.

I think they (shroud & valve covers) came out fantastic! By the way, what plug wires are you running?

I rubbed mine down and then treated with a basic high temp primer and high temp red engine paint. It came out looking good and seems to be holding up well.

I hate the thought of painting a red shroud or green one.
I do love the crinkle look
This is the shroud when I took the engine apart and then when a friend said he had nothing to do for the weekend. He brought this back....

I'd like to paint mine while its all apart but its plastic. Are they all plastic? Until recently I thought they were metal. So what sort of paint should we be using?

Arrow durable an even krinkle finish

The key to a durable an even krinkle finish is;

- a clear, hot sunny day
- prep the surface of the shroud by scuffing with some 80 grit
- preheating the can in warm water to warm the paint about 85-90 deg F.
- one even light coat (allow to dry about 10 minutes or until tacky)
- then one thick coat
- place the whole thing in direct sunlight ( I put my valve covers in the oven on lowest setting with the door open for about 20 minutes, the shroud had to sit in the sun for a couple of hours before it wrinkled)

Thanks Dave,

As mentioned, They are Clewetts, these are great plug wires. I ordered from Clewett directly and received great service for this custom set. I ordered a set with a longer coil to distributor wire because I relocated the coil into the accumulator spot. The wires fit is perfect and they are easy to go on and off with an audible click when properly in place. The rubber boots are very secure and fit perfectly into the recesses.

Highly recommended,

Shane

He said he used the purple stuff. I had already removed the loose grease with the cleaner and brushed and left stains. I thought some polish would work but there was nothing like Gary gave me back..

One thing I know for certain is that I have NO talent when it comes to computers. I tried to add a couple of pictures for JJ 911SC entertainment assuming it would be like adding pictures to a E-Mail. No such luck. Can anyone give me a step by step on how to post a picture on a established thread?
Thanks

I can not load a photo using internet Explorer on this forum. For some reason I can only load a photo using Safari.

Perhaps you should try Safari as your browser.
