*&%$# piston squirters
This is bizarre. I took my cases to the machine shop to be cleaned. I checked all the squirters with compressed air before I sent them, all were fine except one which was stuck open. So I figured maybe it will clean up in the tank. I got the cases back and checked all the squirters again. The #1 squirter is still stuck open. But now I've got all three on the 4-6 case stuck closed?? The squirter drilling comes off the main bearing oil supply hole in the saddle right? I can see the hole to it just inside the saddle. I did the same as before, inserted a stud into the end of a hose and used it to plug the drilling from the saddle into the through bolt hole and applied air to the saddle hole. I went up to 120 psi and I get nothing from all three squirters!! Does anyone have a pic of these things? It's just a spring and a ball right? Does the ball seat on the drilling in the web with the spring on top of it and then the nozzle on top of the spring? I can get a spray wand from can of brakeleen into the drilling that goes directly to the squirter nozzle, maybe I should try a piece of wire down it to force open the ball? Crazy.

I think I found a pic - looks like a tube with the spring and ball enclosed inside? So it's the whole assembly that gets replaced, not just the nozzle? I'm going to get some MEK.

Try soaking with some penetrant? Strange that soaking the case made it worse, but they could be gunked up with something. Penetrant could loosen it up possibly or dissolve any gunk in there.

The Seafoam worked on #4 and #6! But #5 still wouldn't budge so I had to take drastic measures. A piece of .025 MIG wire pushed into the squirter supply hole finally got the ball unstuck from the seat. #1 still leaks so I'm replacing it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1458257576.jpg

They point just about straight up from the top of the webs to the bottom of the pistons. The hole to the squirters intersects the hole supplying oil to the mains just inside the saddle surface so you can get a wire directly into the squirter hole. I had best luck with the mig wire, it's stiff yet can still be bent enough to direct it into the squirter hole. The syringe makes it easy to get the seafoam directly into the squirter hole.

If you can't free them up they are not that hard to replace.

They are held in by staking the web to deform the top of the hole that they fit in. A dremel and a slide hammer removes them.

I guess so, I've never had one out. I'm pulling one out tomorrow though. Will post some pics.

I drilled them and the bit got stuck in the squirter body, then I just yanked them out.

I doubt if this was needed but I put a tiny bead of loctite 620 around the squirter.

Cool, pistons look a lot like the JE 102mm slugs in my VW bug.
You could just notch the rods with a .010 -to 015 notch filed aiming at the back of the piston. Oil pressure and centrifugal force will take care of the rest. |
