Distributor shaft diameter

I have a 2.0L case and a distributor for a 2.7L which doesn't fit - shaft diameter is too large. When did the hole in the case get enlarged? What year distributors are compatible with a 2.0L case?

I would think through 71 because the clamping changed in 72.

That leaves the big-cap HEI and the early small-cap points distributor as possibilities. Both models as produced by GM have a 0.491-inch shaft diameter and originally used the same conventional (nonmelonized) distributor gear (GM PN 1958599, discontinued).

I believe '72 was the first year for the larger distributor hole in 911 engines. So up through '71 distributors should fit your 2.0L case.

<71... 27mm .....72>... 30mm from memory.
We have modified 72>... 30mm fit early engines by machining the shaft.
You can also modify a mid 80s mag pulse 5,6,7 series distributor to fit early Porsche engines. 6 pin or MSD CD required for that conversion.
