9 bolt crank in early case?

Does anyone know whether it is possible for a 9 bolt SC crank to fit in an early pre-78 case with additional machine work? Or will it only fit in later cases?

I have an older aluminum case that takes a 6 bolt crank but would prefer to use a later 9 bolt sc crank.

You're 6 bolt case has a value that exceeds an SC case, just sell or trade it.
A 2.7 crank still gives you 3.0 l just go with it
