Cam Tower - Rocker shaft bore
In the process of assembling a motor and cleaning all the parts.. this is the worst of the rocker shaft bores (yes, that is a BIG gouge) .. looks like it has been abused by an idiot.
I acquired the motor in pieces so can not tell how bad it leaked, if at all. Would some sealant in addition to a seal, be sufficient? Can it be welded and re bored? Or do I need to look for a replacement? Any thoughts? Mike

Ouch...
I have seen cam towers sell for $150 or so... probably cheaper than all the other options... Not sure how you would tig weld it/ bore it. I have done some tig welding of aluminum , but that would be tough to get at. You can get some alummalloy brazing rods that stick really well to aluminum. But you would still need to machine it and it would be an iffy repair... Good luck, Bo |

Cam towers are cheap, replace it.
If you are super strapped you can rat tail file it smooth, hit it with JB weld and then rat tail it again. Nothing actually spins in these bores; the rocker spins on the rocker shaft, so they just need to be straight-ish. Worst case scenario, you have a leak. |

Hi Mike..it looks like someone either had a stripped shaft bolt and tried to use a sharp punch to get it out and missed.
Of course the best is probably new tower.But in your location possibly hard to get. Clean it as best you can and get your self rocker arm shaft o rings.Once you have it look at the alignment and if you can get the shaft with the o ring on it before the scrape? My feeling yes you can .Then you would have no oil leaks at all. This is the part you want to order...  here is the shaft located with the o ring before the scrape...my not to good drawing  here o ring goes here  i hope this helps Ivan |

That's the wide boss, so the shaft is recessed into that bore and sticks out of the other side just a bit, so if the surface is still smooth beyond that rough area, you might get lucky. Hard to see in that picture. O-rings for sure, anyway.

That one is on an end, so couldn't you bore it and make an Al bushing?
