Yes, I saw that. It lacked the detail I wanted (specifically, none of the guts are there) and decided to make my own.

Catorce, thank you!!

I actually have found weak links in SW's that ACAD Inventor does better and Mechanical.

Guess I'm getting more familiar with it all. They all use the same base coding AFAIK. Mostly GUI differences from understanding?

I'm not familiar with anything from a coding standpoint, I'm completely oblivious haha.

Here's a quick edit you guys might like. I don't have the valves/springs/retainers etc in there yet, but the ports are there.

Awesome!!!!

Optimusglen 10-30-2017 12:27 PM

A few additions. Worked on getting the components done for the head assembly.

Then moved onto the intakes.

I feel like you are working your way towards a full VR model to enable us to practice our engine rebuilding skills without an actual engine! These renders are just awesome.

Tom Elder 11-04-2017 06:22 AM

Hi, Just wanted to join the fan-wagon and say I really enjoy your images and skill, and appreciate the time it takes to measure everything and do this work.
I am old enough to have spent 15 years on the pencil drawing board, doing technical drawings and I find the latest scan, cad, rendering technology amazing, compared to the old school methods of a few decades ago!
Keep the images coming!!! Cheers, Tom

Optimusglen 11-08-2017 02:49 PM

Thanks guys!

Had a chance to start the long journey that is the Zenith carbs, roughed in, needing so many features.

Also added the fan pulley.

Optimusglen 11-11-2017 01:47 PM

Amazing

Spenny_b 11-12-2017 01:49 PM

I think you'd give Instagram a melt-down if you were to start posting these renderings on there! Seriously impressive. Need these as prints in my workshop. And man-cave. And house. (no, there's no Mrs Spenny_b thankfully :D )

Thank you! They are already on Instagram, I just don't have a ton of followers.

Simply gorgeous.

dkirk 11-14-2017 08:02 AM

Incredible! Thank you for your time and dedication to this wonderful effort...much appreciated!

Optimusglen 11-24-2017 07:25 AM

I got some time to start hashing out the Zenith carbs, one side coming along nicely, the other side not started yet.

And an all clay rendered version.

Tippy 11-24-2017 09:12 AM

If I ever had some free time at work, I could contribute to the "cause".

Is there anything you need modeled?

rwest 11-24-2017 04:28 PM

Wow, amazing detail, great work.

Optimusglen 12-02-2017 06:22 AM

This is certainly the most challenging part so far, took a dive into the first case half.

Long long way to go, but the foundation is there.

http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4557/24...647f1b0c_b.jpg

Catorce 12-02-2017 08:10 AM

That's a great start!

Optimusglen 12-04-2017 08:35 AM

More on the carbs, been really cool to get up close and personal with all of the stuff that you usually just clean and assemble.

http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4530/37...f91979c9_h.jpg

http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4576/37...92b20367_h.jpg

http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4579/24...b1c6d31f_h.jpg

I don't have modeled screw threads on most of the stuff that uses threads, mostly because it takes so much more time to create/export/render. Once the model is done I'll be going back and added the threads as a bump map on the surfaces that need it. For now you get smooth cylinders going into smooth cylinders.

lvporschepilot 12-04-2017 08:40 AM

Great stuff, enjoying this. Will this model be able to simulate combustion and heat sources?

Optimusglen 12-08-2017 08:52 AM

It is a parametric 3D model, so parts could be imported into other software systems to simulate that stuff. I have no access to such a software though. And since these aren't 100% accurate down to the 10th or 100th of a millimeter I don't think running these models in such a software setup would gain anyone any usable knowledge.

Making a little progress on the first case half. Guessing maybe a little under halfway there. then I get to do it all over again with the other half...

Tippy 12-08-2017 09:16 AM

I wished I was that good in CAD! I'd love to see the basic foundation on how you started

Optimusglen 12-10-2017 07:57 AM

More work on the carbs, floats are in as well as the lower portion of the airbox. Still some details to add to the airbox
http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4541/38...2b45bfe3_b.jpg

From above as clay.
http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4725/38...cbd8fef9_b.jpg

and from the side as clay

Optimusglen 12-11-2017 02:47 PM

Added more airbox details, I'll be revisiting the first case half and adding details in a few days.

Masterful work. Simply amazing.

Optimusglen 12-11-2017 06:15 PM

Thanks guys! Had a bit more time this evening and started on some other bits.

Catorce 12-12-2017 08:13 AM

WOW, so awesome, I love the clay!!!!

Optimusglen 12-16-2017 06:06 AM

In my classic for of stirring multiple pots at once, here's a start on the engine air shroud. No rendered image this time, the baby is about to get up so I need to go make a bottle...

http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4739/39...dfa5347d_b.jpg

I should note, the transmission is just a placeholder for now. I found this model online and popped it in, supposedly a 930 trans? At any rate, I'll be doing my own at some point, but want to finish the engine first.

Eric at Pelican Parts 12-18-2017 09:07 AM

Wow, this is amazing, the attention to detail is staggering! I could definitely see 3D printing these and leaving them around the house as art too.

Optimusglen 12-18-2017 10:00 AM

Thank you! Here's the most recent. Little bits of work on it at a time, it takes patience but eventually it'll be complete.

Amazing work. I encourage you to make some sort of art with the model once completed (Poster, 3D print..).
