Cam removal problem, 1982 911 SC 3.0
Hey to all,
Removed the cam sprockets and cannot get the woodruff keys out. Wayne's book indicates to "pry them out" using a small screwdriver, I cannot get them to budge. Any hints? Cross posting in 911 Technical forum Thanks if anyone can help, stalled out on an already painfully slow project. Darwin |

Put a small screwdriver under the leading edge of the key, tap with a hammer to have the key roll out. Then use pliers to finish pulling out
It’s even more fun putting them in..... Bruce |

OK, thanks. Will try it tomorrow. Going to drink scotch tonight instead of working on the engine. Are the keys just standard issue when replacing or are they made of unobtainium and priced in the stratosphere.

+1 The only way to get them out. Make sure you blocked the cam housing opening to prevent the key from dropping in the engine case. |

Side cutters work too, but the screwdriver method above should have them out with no damage. Block the chain housing holes where the chains come out, if your not stripping the full engine down. I normally take all the rockers out at tdc on each cylinder first
