Question 23.7 Mpg?

I have a 2000 328i sport package with low miles. Each time I check the "MPG" it is "23.7", it never changes. Despite my driving habbits (Highway or City) it stays the same, is it broke?

Have you reset everything when you fueled up with Gas? One would expect some change... Alternately, calculate it yourself (fill tank full, drive (note mileage) fill tank again, divide gallons used into miles driven) and see if it's close to 23.7...

I agree, i would take the MPG as an estimate at best.

I agree with Salvator; I didn't reset mine for awhile after I got it, and the mpg didn't budge. Anytime you start to get some history, it's not going to go anywhere, so reset it.

BTW, my '99 328i is getting terrific mileage; I have a mostly freeway commute so it's pushing 29 mpg during the week, and 31 mpg isn't uncommon on trips as long as I don't hit too much traffic.

And it's pretty close, as the 31 mpg runs do get 490 or so mile tanks (I tend to reset the trip meter with each fill up).

Im pretty sure that the computer uses fuzzy logic to figure this stuff out, so after awhile, you do have to reset it. On my car, i found that it is clearly off in it's computations, so i've learned not to trust it.

If your car is like mine, just use the button on the end of the turn indicator stalk to get to the MPG display on your computer... once there, hold the button (on the stalk) down until the numbers go away and blank lines show up... as you drive away, you'll see number start to appear in the display, as your car starts recalculating... If that doesn't work, read your onwers manual of contact BMW via the BMW Owners Circle portion of www.bmwusa.com and send them your question... Good luck!
