Hello,
I picked up my 330CI two weeks ago - love the car, looks great, drives great etc. One problem though - I took it in for state inspection and it failed for OBDII. The dealer siad that I just need to drive it for a week or so so that the computer resets - battery must have been disconnected at some point. The only other possibility he said is that the after market muffler does not have a catalytic converter - how common is this? Any suggestions/ideas greatly appreciated. Thx |

I doubt the cats have been removed from your car although it is possble. Most likely the aftermarket muffler is a catback system meaning it bolts onto the flanges just after the cats. See if you can find a brand name on the muffler.
Driving it for a week to reset it sounds silly too. Usually the EMC can be rest either by turning the car on and off 6 to 10 times or by disconnecting the battery. I'm not an expert on OBCII but I'm pretty sure the system stores fault codes over time. Maybe the system was recently reset and there is not enough driving history in the OBCII system to satisfy the test. So driving it for a while could solve your problem. This is merely a guess though. Jeron

If the computer has been reset it has to be driven so they know there are no emmission faults that have just been cleared~
