how can i turn off check engine light
i have a 2000 328i. engine light is on, i took it to the dealer and rana diagnostic and dealer said that engine light is on because i need to change the secondary air pump and valve , so i changed both parts but the light is still on. i have driven about 200 miles after chaging these parts and light is still on. i have a scanner which i usedbefore changing and after changing the parts and the codes that are read by my scaner are still the same beofre and after. when i use the scaner the light turns off for about 100 miles but then come back on, can someone plz help, i need to make state(NC) inspection but light need to be off so it can pass.

The light must be reset but your scanner seems to be resetting the light for you. It sounds like you have another problem causing the light to continue to come on.
The dealer was either wrong about why the light was comming on or there was more than one problem. What are the codes?

The dealer didn't tell me the codes, just told me what parts need to be replaced which were the secondary air pump, valve and relay. Now i didn't chnage the relay( maybe that will help, i don't know). but when i put my scanner, it gives me 2 codes p1421( secondary air injector valve circuit to the ground )and P1423 (Secondary Air Injection Bank 1 Flow Too Low). Now my research on the internet shows that these two codes are indeed the secondary air pump and the valve which the dealer told me about and which i did change. Any idea or suggestions what might be wrong?

one other thing, i just went outside in the cold to check if the 2ndary pump is running, it was b/c it wa smaking that weird noise that they usually make so i doubt the relay is bad (since i didnt change it) pump is functional. just thought this might help the troubleshooting process for those whhave input, thanks

Not sure what part U dont understand???? BMW sends out to the dealer bulletins (advanced notices) of whats going to be wrong with certain models and how to fix-->There is a bulletin on ur model car that says to replace the air pump->the non return valve-->the relay--> AND REPROGRAM
U can ONLY reprogram with a DIS machine or the GT-1 So either U have to find a shop with a GT-1 or go to the dealer ![]() B U T-->the fault codes are 245 & 246 .....U have different faults so not sure why the dealer told you to replace pump, valve & relay >>Pull ur center engine cover off & check if ur crank case vent hose is melted towards the back of the motor |

245 and 246 are codes for the E36 model or not obd2 codes, but i guess i have to reprogram and try to see what happens b/c dealer and my scanner report same problem( 2ndary air pump vale an drelay). do you have any idea how much th reprogrming costs? also i was told that maybe some hoses might be blocked or some leaks might exist
