2000 323I NO Acceleration

I have no problems with acceleration when I first start the car but if I turn it off and start it while it is still warm there is no acceleration or power. Once it cools off it is fine. The check engine light is on and the code is "cam sensor fault". Can a faulty sensor cause this problem or maybe something more serious. When I bought the car used the power steering fluid was low. Is the power steering fluid used in the VANUS system? Could I have air in the system that may be causing the sensor fault?

The p/s is not related to the VANOS.

You should be able to get a diagram of engine and cam sensors here:

The exhaust sensor is right in front of the motor on exhaust side>>its just the sensor.....the intake side is behind the vanos oil cylnder>>which you have to remove to get to....and it has a plug on the sensor that plugs in behind the oil filter housing.....have to take off the oil filter cap & usually the air-box>>very easy to do...then you should clear faults & clear adaptations

Thanks for the info. I will be working on it this weekend. The realoem.com site was something I have been looking for on the web for awhile. Thanks for that as well.
