2002 330xi noise

My '02 330xi makes an odd series of noises after startup. I initially though that it might simply be the fuel pump, however, is not a continuous sound and can't pin down the location. The noise is a low whine followed by what I would describe as a "gurgle" noise as if some component is trying to adjust. It carries on for some time and is more apparent in cool weather. It is also not affected by engine rpm or adjustments to the heat/cooling settings, brake application, etc. Thought possibly that the adjusters on the xenon lamps were going haywire, but not the case. The sound continues whether you are parked or moving. Haven't taken it to the shop yet and thought someone else may have the same issue or insight.

How long does it last? My guess is the whine isd the secondary pump which sounds like a blowdrier and runs for about 30-90 seconds after a cold start, but then again you said it wasn't continuous.

My ICV makes a buzzing noise before startup and then sometimes click/clacks open and shut. Can you pinpoint the location of sound with the hood up?

Thanks.

I have listened under the hood, but couldn't pin it down.

It does persist for various times. The last time this occured it was for several minutes, but no opportunity to diagnose. Definately more pronounced during cold weather. For example, 62 in the garage this morning, nothing. The other day, maybe 50 in a parking lot, carried on for minutes.
