weird heater motor problem
Hi all, I've got an 01 330i thats got a problem with fan control for the heater.
My wife tells me the fan just comes on full blast for no reason. I thought maybe she had the temp control set to auto but she didn't. We took it out for a drive the other day and sure enough, the fan just went to full blast all by itself for no reason. Any ideas why this would happen? Is there anything in particular I should look at? Thanks, Eric

The final stage resistors go out regularly on the E36's and now I'm starting to hear of them going out on E46's. I think there is at least one post in this forum about it. Search the E36 forum and you will get lots of hits.
I'd say >90% chance its the final stage resistor if the problem is as you described.

IF THE FAN DOES NOT ALWAYS REFLECT WHAT THE CONTROL UNIT SAYS THAN IT IS THE FINAL STAGE. ON E46S THEY ARE A REAR PAIN. I WOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. UNLESS YOU LIKE LAYING UPSIDE DOWN AND TRYING TO GET LITTLE TORX BOLTS OUT
