Where is my TPMS controller?

I have a 2012 328Xi --and my TPS Controller (not sensor) is kaput. I am thinking of changing it myself. Two questions: 1. Where is it located? and 2. How do I reset the controller?

I was told the tire pressure controller was near the rear right wheel well accessible from the trunk. Not so. After removing the tire and the fiber shell in the wheel well, I found the controller rearward of the tire. See attached photo. This controller is easily accessed by removing a 1 foot by 1 foot panel about where the exhaust would be if the car had dual exhaust. Easy access if you know where to look. I put in a new controller and the thing still does not work: I still get the dash idiot light and below it it says "INACTIVE'. Resetting the system by using the instructions in the drivers manual does nothing. Any suggestions?

I have done the same thing. Replaced it but still Inactive. I did see a video where they disconnected the battery, then touched the neg and the pos together for about 10sec. Supposed to reset everything. Have not tried it yet, but getting close to doing it.
