service light/trip meter problem.
my 1991 520i has a problem with the service light and mileage display.when i start the car the display is visible at the bottom and fades out towards the top. and after about 20 seconds it fades completely?

Sounds like it could be eityher the bulbs or the batteries dying.

Your inst. cluster board has problem which is common for your model.
