041 fault codes

I have a '94 540i with a very aggravating problem. It started with the "check engine" light and "transmission program" light being on. The car was taken to the local "stealer"and they informed me that the tranny was bad. They could replace it for a a paltry $6,500!

I had the tranny replaced with a rebuilt one at a private shop. I still have the same symptoms! I pulled the codes and it show an 041 engine code which will not cear and the tranny code is for "engine load".

I assume that the engine code is causing th tranny code. The engine code is for a MAF problem, although I see references to the idle air valve.

Troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated!
