ignition switch problems

Hello. Just bought a used 93 525i. The ignition switch is hard to turn. System thinks key is still in ignition after it has been removed. Tried to graphite the switch, but it didnt help.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The locking mechanism in the steering column wears out and will jam permanently, also the key-lock assy itself can wear out.
If this system jams up on you it is a PITA to replace (yours may be easier, no airbag),
While it is still working it can be replaced by a competent BNW service tech. I had mine done on my 94 540i not too long ago - just the key-lock assy. It has to be ordered from BMW, showing proof of ownership at parts counter..
