E39 audio inputs

On an early 98 540i E39 (UK car)currently fitted with TV/Nav (female voice)and CD changer, is there any convertors to allow either an MP3 changer (Alpine if poss) or to have aux inputs (RCA type). I don't mind losing the CD changer but want the audio to go though the standard TV/head unit set up. I've seen setups for 2000 on models so I guess something must be different.

Thanks

This might be a good start.

Thanks, got one which the seller advised the MP3 changer could be used with an alpine adapter lead added as well. The car sees the MP3 changer but won't play anything.

Is there a switch on the cd changer or on the box. I know I added a alpine mp3 cd changer to my stock unit on th m3. I got small box that plugged into the stock cd changer wires. I then had to switch abutton on the cd changer i had to move it to the opposite of what it was for the sound to come out. Basically when you hook it up power will automatically be sent to the cd changer. But you need to move that switch for music (audio) to be heard. Let me know if this helps.

Also, I just reread what the start of this convo was. I know if you get the updated radio module that will allow mp3 cd changers, sat radio and mp3 input right on the module itself. I just found this out two days ago. As I would like to do this to my m5.

Thanks for that, what do you mean by updated radio module. I phoned BMW to see if they listed anything but they advised on only the OE one?

I have a 2000 m5 and you have a 98 5 series, if you get the radio module for the trunl like a 2003 or 2004 version it has all of those options on it. Basically the radio unit if you look at the model numbers on it you want a radio unit with the number 961(brand new) or 962(remanufactured) or a higher number for it to have those options. These units the 961 and 962 allow, ipod hooks up mp3 cd changers with and without nav and or dsp and it also allows sat radio. Hope this helps. P/N 65 12 6 976 961 (Or 65 12 6 976 962) those are the full part numbers.
