HID's throwing an error code on dash

I may have asked this before but I thought I had the "headlights out" error on the dash fixed today.

As suggested on another BMW site, I spliced in a small halogen bulb into the stock headlight wires before they make the connection to the HIDs.

The purpose is, obviously, to trick the computer into thinking everything's cool.

The display was empty for a whiel and then the headlights out icon came on again.

Anyone know what I can do or maybe where I should have spliced the wires?

1999 528 iT

Thanks,
