Looking to buy peak scan tool

I have a 2000 528i and it won't pass inspection. It threw 2 codes on the inspection machine but the check engine light is not on. But with the key on acc the check engine light does not illuminate either. Can it be burnt out, or unplugged? I jus bought the car a month ago. The dsc/abs/brake lights are on. I was curious if the peake engine tool would help me out with this? Also my speedometer jus stops working every know and then. Any help would be appreciated thank you

It is possible that the light is burnt out, however you can also get codes without the ligth being illuminated. The Peake tool is good for basic DIY work. Ideally, it would be nice to know what two codes you got from the diagnostic machine the first time around.
