Question 633csi No Spark??

I am a new BMW owner, I have a good mechanical understanding of cars. but all cars have their own quirks and a little experience goes a long way, so I am asking for your experience and help. I have a 1983 633csi that has been sitting around for approx. a year and will not start? I am not getting any spark from any spark plug, plug wire, or the coil-distributor wire.
There is 12v at the +-side of the coil and the coil tested to be fine,
I have a "HAYNES" repair manual,(I know it is a joke of a repair manual but it is the only thing i could find locally), I am testing each part of the system and hope to get this running soon, ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I had a posting earlier about a 633csi I took for trade on money someone owed me, The old owner found the cash and I didn't have the heart to keep the car, but he did turn me on to this one I now own and I got it fairly cheap, it will need some work but they sure are nice cars to drive.

Thanks,

Fran

How did you test the coil? It's not as simpel as checking for voltage.

tell me about the general condition of the wiring under the hood. have you checked to see if the rotor or the distributor is damaged. if these components appear good and the rotor is turning( if not check for broken cam chain), the next check is the ignition module. many auto parts stores can check this unit, if you don't have the test equpt. if possible check with the former owner and ask if the the car has been jump started or attempted. if the battery was connected wrong it is possible to damage the main control unit. i hope this might give you some avenues to review.

update

Thanks for the advise,
The coil was checked per the maintenance manual, primary to secondary windings 5Ohms, primary to output approx. 5000 Ohms
I will be testing the ignition control module and a few of the other electronic controls tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Fran

Did you take heat into consideration when testing the coil?

no time

Thanks for all the input everyone, I am in the military and as we all know the world is a dangerous place these days. I just don't have any time to dedicate to the car, I may be unloading it soon for verrrry little money, it does need some work but it has alot of rebuilt parts ie. engine, xmsn, and complete exhaust. It will need paint and some body work (some rust but not alot). let me know if you have any interest. It is in western massachusetts zip 01089.

Thanks again

Fran

Check out this website(SYSTEMSC.COM).
It has some diagnostic info that may help.

Good luck
