power windows not working

I acquired my 84' 733 ci with power sunroof and windows that don't work. The only thing I did so far was replacing a blown fuse. Every time I try to activate the switches, the fuse will blow. Could anybody please share with me knowledge on this issue.

I'm not familiar with your setup however here is a procedure I would try. The key in trouble shooting electrical problems is to isolate the circuits to see which is causing the problem. First, see if the windows and sunroof have separate fuses. If they share a common fuse, I would disconnect cables to each window motor and the sunroof motor, then re-attach them one at a time to see which is overloading the circuit causing the fuse to blow. Also take note whether each window is on a separate fuse. I'm not sure. If none of the power circuits is common, see if they all connect to a common ground wire.

You could have a motor that is shorted out or you could have a ground problem.

If they have separate fuses, the power windows should not affect the sunroof and vise versa; that is unless they share a common ground wire. Pelican has lots of wiring diagrams on this site. See if you can locate the circuitry for your year and model car. I'd like to help more, but I'm headed for the airport.

Good Luck.

My wrong assumption.

I frequent the Porsche site for my 911 and they have an Electrical Diagram section on the left side of the screen. I thought Pelican had one for BMW, but a quick look and I can't find it either. Sorry for misleading you. The option will be to locate a Bentley manual for your year car. This is a good investment anyway if you plan to keep the car and do some of the work yourself.

Also, check these sites:
