Question on fuel pump strainer install
Hi, question for the folks who have replaced that strainer net thingy on the fuel pump. So appears that once the fuel pump is mounted...the fuel strainer is just pressed on is that correct? Nothing else really holding it on I guess? It's a tight fit just want to make sure I don't miss anything.

Yep, afraid so. A pain.
And I had to file a tiny notch in the pump side to get it to go on. It also has to be in the right orientation... Notice the blue painter tape too. That's to make sure the hoses are routed to each properly. here's how it came out: ![]() ![]()

Ok. The instructions from BBY say to file the pump a bit. So odd that it's just held on by friction.

CK did you see my other question on the other thread about accidentally scratching some paint off the submerged part of the metal fuel housing removing it. My best guess is I should leave it alone and not try to find a fuel resistant paint.

The reason for filing the edge of the pump is the intake of that pump is a somewhat brittle plastic and can (in my case it did) break a small piece off and went into the pump and destroy it in a few seconds.
Mike from BBY was very kind to help me with a new pump and this time I was a bit more gentle on assembly. 10k plus miles on this pump , nice and quiet with no issues , just be careful and don't force that filter sock on. |

Thanks Mike, I'm just not sure how it stays on with just friction. The one on there was definitely tight though.
