I made a post earlier about my fuel pump no priming. Well, I did some more digging and I found out my wires have melted, from the relay boxes across the wires hugging the fairing frame. It cannot be saved so I'm going to replace it with a used one.
I've been digging around the internet looking for a guide or someone who has done it and wrote his process on a forum but I couldn't find anything. Can anyone walk through the process of replacing the harness briefly? I am particularly concerned about the airbox. I think I have to remove it to access the negative ground but do I really have to remove the driveshaft and swing the subframe up? Any advice or tips are more than welcome. ![]() ![]() |

The battery negative ground is attached to the top of the transmission housing.
If I can remember, it's just foward, and under, of the battery box, and under the ABS unit and Motronics unit. No need to touch the driveshaft and swing the subframe.

I have no advice but would like to know how did that happen? Looks like a bunch of wires smoked.

Both R1100S I saw last year on COPART were salvaged due to similar harness issues. Is this a known aging problem for the R1100S?

I'm installed a couple, Some mechanical disassembly will be required. The sheathing on these harnesses is crap after time. I pulled it off and wrapped in in friction tape. You'll also need to get under the battery tray...good luck...

Ditto on this, I just went through my 2000 R1100S and spent some time removing disintegrating wiring harness covering and wrapping with electrical tape, I was surprised with how vulnerable the fuel system wiring was, I’ll definitely do more of this next winter for sure. Not surprised if more of this crops up.

Yup, wiring doesn't last forever.
