The rebuilt shocks arrived from Ohlins US in Hendersonville. I mounted those, swapped wheels to the Dymags after shuffling the rotors as the wavy rotors from the 99 are smaller, and headed off The Ridge for a few laps. I find the bike is nicely balanced even with the stock A arm. My R1200S with a short A arm tends to fall into the turn more than I'd prefer. Steering with the Dymags is lighter, the suspension with the rebuilt Ohlins seems perfect with the settings from Hendersonville. As an aside, I was surprised by the amount of attention this old R1100S got from other riders and the staff of 2 Fast.

Despite some of my earlier misgivings, this project is turning out well. I owe a big thankyou to Jozef for the Mandy thread that inspired this.

He is definitely missed... his priceless advice is as well.

As to how I should best prepare my bike for my Alaska ride: "Oh we just put everything on it and throw if off the loading dock a couple of times and see what breaks... we reinforce that and you'll be good to go"

His humor was certainly not for the faint-hearted.

A couple of stories about Brad:

When he worked as a magazine writer in downtown LA, we would lane-split on the freeways to work. If someone tried to cut him off, he’d break off their radio antenna as he rode by. He apparently had a large collection of them in his office.

Trying to follow him on a very windy road somewhere up in Central California, i asked how he had so much confidence going at speed into blind corners. He said he looked at the opening of the trees around the next corner. Simple but genius!

He ran a website for a large motorcycle accessory company, and recieved big discounts on products. I once mentioned in a thread I was shopping for new riding boots. He gave me his personal password to his account told me to order what I wanted and have it shipped to my address. "Just mail me a check" he said. He worked for a few motorcycle magazine over the years. he lost his collection in a house fire. I had magazines from way back into the 1970s. I found the ones with his name in the masthead and sent them to him. He and I both enjoyed woodworking. I sent him a bunch of eastern red cedar that I cut on my sawmill. he and his grandson used to trim out a canoe they built together. He lived a large life that touched many people.

I had heard several times that Brad would refrain from giving riding advice, directly. BUT, I got the impression he was watching everyone on a ride and you might elicit a comment like 'you seem to be a bit faster than usual today, why do you think that is?'
On the other hand, an unfamiliar rider causing an issue and not taking a 'hint' got their keys tossed deep into the brush.

jdazey, would your wife let you part with the saddle bag mounts on the donor bike? I just inherited a 2003 Boxer Cup Replica and would love to install saddle bags for some weekend touring. I have found bags, but I don't see any mounts available.
