A solution for some - barbacks for your S.
O.K. kids.
I recall alot of threads from S riders that are looking for a way to pull the bars rearward, especially some of us older riders. This isn't for all of you but I'm going to offer it up to you guys anyhow. I had a set of barbacks made for me, a simplistic CNC design I drew up, and I'm really pleased with the result. I've got the CNC guy who will turn them out if we get some requests (an order). I, for one have been searching for a bar-back solution that would set my high bars back just an inch, enough that I can get my hands on the grips without so much forward shlump...and didn't cost an arm and a leg to do it. These work for me. No hoses, wires or cables need to be replaced. The only thing I needed to do was snip a couple wire ties at the frame to give the wire bundles more slack. :cool Check it out: http://www.sunvalleylighting.com/caltest/OTHER/Barbacks.htm ![]()

Holy guacamole! I just laid out almost $400 for the Verholen riser kit. Sure, it's adjustable, but these look nicer and do exactly the job that needs doing... 1" back and 3/4" inch up is perfect.
To top it off, in order to get the full adjustability out of the Verholen risers, I'm going to have to get the brake line lengthened about an inch+1/2, which is gonna cost about $100 at BMW. Arghhh... 3 weeks too late! (Kicking myself now...) ![]()

Active,
Send 'em back, get your money back and buy mine. Simple easy. OR, I have an RS brake hose I bought for this very reason that I DIDN'T NEED, I'll let you have for $25 shipped. It's about 2" longer than the S hose. Ain't life grand.

I'm interested, let me know what the cost would be. We'd still need a longer line on my wife's Prep but I should be able to use her low bars with these. Much cheaper then the KRS option.

Web Address
The price is on the link if you haven't gone there to see the pics.
http://www.sunvalleylighting.com/ca...ER/Barbacks.htm $125 a set, possibly less if we got enough for the run. The final pices will come with metric screws of the correct length (not shown on prtotype). I'm not sure how you'll use them with low bars. Low bars are under the tripletree, yes? ![]()

Correction
In my rush to get the barbacks on, I made a wrong statement.
They actuallly set the bars back closer to 1.5" rearward. I'll correct that on the website link Monday. Sorry about that. At any rate, they are adjustable concentricly which allows width adjustment, and inturn, a degree of forward/rearward adjustment. ![]()

I'll take that brake hose. It'll definitely fit the R1100S? When I mentioned using the RS hose, my dealer thought that the angle of the fittings might not be correct, but wasn't sure. If you're SURE it's gonna work, then consider it sold! (ABS compatible?) PM me and we'll work out the details.

R/D- That link doesn't seem to work. The low bars clamp around the tube just like the high bars. Your bar backs look like a simple clamp on so I don't see why they wouldn't work. Is there anything else going on besides the 2 pinch bolts on the bars?

Bikpainter.
No, it's just a simple "step-up" from the the high bars, knda like Leggo's... Loosen the handlebar pinch bolts and remove them from the fork tubes. Slip on the barbacks, position, and tighten the pinch bolts. Slip handlebars onto barbacks and tighten pinch bolts. Simple easy. You will have to snip a couple cable ties to loosen up your wire harnesses going to each handlebar. That's it.

Pretty up the exposed tops and these would be really nice.

We're going to do some smoothing and the tops will be raised flush with the top of the handlebar, about 3/32", with a small chamfer at the top edge.

How about contact with the fork tube caps? Are the bars turned in any more than stock in order to clear them? I guess if they were you could just swing the whole clamp out to get the same result.

I think you're talking about where the handlebar bottom touches the tapered caps.
Yes, they will be closein this configuration. If we set the bars back another, say, 1/4", they'd clear, completely. A it is the locking tab sets down on the top surface of the barbacks and acts a s a stop. In a 1/4" back config, the tab could be filed of the handlebar, or I suppose you could drill indexing holes if wanted for the tab. Albeit, this in design stage.
