Cool Anyone got any info on a new 120hp S?

I saw on the R1100S vs Bandit 1200 thread that theres a 120hp R1200S rumoured. Anyone in the know here on details or release date (or if its even true at all)?

I was just about to put my money down on a S this week but looks like I'm going to wait now

Thanks

Gareth

I wouldn't even call it a rumor at this point - just speculation.

BMW has just replaced the engine in the GS with a new generation boxer that ups hp from 85 to 100, so it has been speculated that if the S motor was updated in a similar fashion, it might make 115 hp or so.

Spy pictures of a new RT are circulating about, so it will definitely get the new engine. Will the S? It's hard to say ... the S is a relatively poor seller and BMW has a history of entering and leaving the sportbike market capriciously. As well, there is a new K bike coming which might pick up the sporting flag. If the S does get the new engine, my guess is that we're at least a year away.

If you're in the market for an S today, I'd look hard at used bikes. Discounts vs. new are significant and the changes over the years are not terribly significant. I'd buy new only if you really, really like the current bike and see yourself keeping it for years and years.

Then go put your money down on a new bike, you won't see a new S till late 05 or 06 model year.

My dealer showed me a letter from BMW HQ inviting him for a bike presentation between July 20 and August 6. This is a fact. The bike to be presented is not a fact yet....

I'd bet Roger's paycheck that will be the new K bike.

Or it could be the R1200RT....

gareth6889,
Don't know how things are down under, but I paid about $2500 under MSRP (with no sales tax or dealer prep queep) for an '04 BCP with 3800 miles. The previous owner was a pro at spit and polish....the bike's like new. Anyway, this seems to be a good time to buy used.

There was an article over here in MCN, (or bike - cant remember) and it interviewed one of the main men at bmw motoraad - talking about the gs and whats next - he said that the whole line / range including the S will get the same treatment the Gs has done. Also, my dealer and apparently the general concensus with dealers over here is that the S will continue, only in a re-vamped form.

Hey Robert,

Just got back form NY ! fallen in love with the place!

Anyway, my dealer over here wants about £780 - £800 (all in) to fit the lazer (road legal) system to my boxercup S.

Is that the general or similar price people pay over in the states?
I was wondering if theres any cheaper way to get this system? Its a hell of a lot of money to me.

Cheers

Adam

The was a speculation article in OTL this month. Basically, they said, while an S might be built, it would probably be behind just about every other BMW R-bike for a facelift: RT, RS, C...then S. SO if it is coming, you will be waiting a while.

This August the S will have been on our shores since 8/98. Six years ago this year.
.
Don't expect a revised one (if ever) until the S is eight years old. (2 years from now)
.
Why would BMW freshen up its slowest seller first?

If I'm not mistaken BMW usually updates their models every 6 years with in between upgrades. We could be in for a suprise with the S but I fear the worst...

It has been a long time since I picked my R11S up...........the first one to go on the road in America.........and it is still running as strong today as it was back then. Summer of 98 I picked mine up and started practicing on it to run the BR 500.

As Rob Wijhenke knows quite well......BMW already has prototype R12S units.......we just have not seen them yet. What a boost for us all when we see the first photos this fall.

EZ,
Somebody better tell Rob to stop being so pessimistic about the future of the S.
.
As he knows "quite well" prototype R12S are out there but haven't been seen.
.
BTW, Factory sources say I was the first to have sex on the S in America.
