Yeah Mike

Thats the Ique 3600 I've had it now for 1/2 year...it's been replaced twice already Garmin Customer Service has been outstanding (good to hear for a change)..I had a problem with the built in flip open/on GPS antenna (bad hall effect transistor)they sent me a new unit and a few weeks ago I complained about battery life seemed short so they exchanged it with another new unit. If I had to start over again I'd still buy the same unit .

What I like about it is.... it's a Palm PDA too and find it a lot more useful then just the 2610's GPS software that it runs...I have a 1 gig SD card in it which will hold in detail half the USA down to street level and room for a few hundred songs on the built in MP3 player and I can download my camera pictures into it to show or email out on a trip plus it has my customer database on it for service calls with a built in voice recorder for quick notes also works great as a alarm clock when on the road in those cheesy motels.

As far as trying to read the map while riding at speed......not going to happen!! but it's great with the vocal prompts or the giant arrows to show where your going at next change of direction(you can hit a button to repeat vocal/visual next turn prompt over and over

The Ique has the same GPS software as a Garmin 2600 series unit but the iQue3600 has better screen resolution and a lot of third party software options available to integrate. Also the iQue is about half the price of a GPS only unit....go figure??

Take a look here for some capabilities that is possible to do.

Thumbs up Radar detection

I had no idea how far behind we are with our stuff. My current set up looks very similar, though the installation below the oil cooler is substantially smaller. I will try to get a photo or 2 posted in the future.

So Bobby at BMW Atlanta checked, and unfortunately they are not an Escort dealer. If anyone knows one that might be interested in offering a group purchase, let me know. I'm looking to get a ZR3 laser shifter to plug into the 8500. Perhaps we can work in a group buy of 8500s if they can be supplied as well.

Call Mike Duffy at Streetfighters.
tell him we talked and you're with out group. He's interested in doing group buys and helping our group with indivigual buys,(for testing pruposes, wink wink),(of course buying 4 sets of CF wheels helps).

I want a V1...and I'm assuming they have a steel case, which is a big plus (on a bike) in my eyes.
The 8500 at a group buy would be great, but, it's another plastic Gizmo box, hardly wet-proof or scorching sun-proof I'd think...
It's just not fair.

the V1 has a plastic case. they don't like water much.
more importantly, the dongle for the HARD helmet goodie is definitely not waterproof and has to be removed before you wash the bike.

so...when it rains, i either take both of them off (10 second job) or wrap them in plastic freezer bags and rubber bands, and continue down the road. (same routine for the gps).

I have an eclipse tank bag with the matching eclipse rain cover. I also keep 2 ziploc bags in the tank bag in case I have to pull the val1 and hard xmitter; they go in the ziploc until the deluge is over. I've ridden in a steady downpour from laguna to tacoma (in one setting....a veeeerrrryyyy lonnnnggggg day) but I sure don't like riding in the rain anymore and try to avoid it

I was thinking more about ruggedness and weather than bike washing Brad. So much of these China produced electronics are so delicate.
The V1 has knobs on the front, the others have the trendy little micro-casted plastic buttons on the TOP where gravity allows moisture in.
At any rate, it seems like the V1 is a more rugged unit.

Oh, stop it Randy; people are watching and you haven't trimmed your nails; squeeze more gently and with a little more motion to the right, OK?
I ride when it's questionable, but I've gotten lucky the last few years, and besides it doesn't rain as much here anymore...who says global warming is a bad thing?

...really...anymore?...maybe "the banana belt" has moved more southern from Whidbey to Tacoma...non-the-less it's a state of mind (like depression)...my S was new when I was in the Emerald City, winter-time and all, but did that stop me? Nooo!
Hey, when I was up there one summer lasted over 2 months!...guess I was lucky....the Cascade loop was awesome.

Did a search, looking for radar. Anything more on a group buy? Thought I would post before I purchase. 8500 with laser and HARD I am thinking.

Went on the back burner for me. It'll be a little while before I get back in the saddle. You're welcome to shop around; I don't know how many will buy...

Actually, the case is made out of magnesium!

From their site

Quote:
Instead of your expensive magnesium case, why don't you go plastic like every other detector and give us a better deal on price?

Our metal case serves as a vault to keep out various electrical interferences from other devices. These interferences are particularly insidious, worse than false alarms, because they can be in there desensitizing your receiving circuits, thereby hurting your warning range, but you have no way of knowing. The magnesium is really durable too, yet it's light weight. You'll notice the really slick laptop computers these days have magnesium instead of plastic cases

Any of you how to integrate two audio signnals into a headset. I'm currently using an HJC-50 but I can either set it to intercom or audio. Thus, I can't have both music input and V1 audio input running concurrently. I've heard other headsets can have dual inputs running simultaneously just don't know which ones.
