O2 Sensor Question
OK,
I am hesitant to post this but am curious. Those that have actually unscrewed and removed their O2 sensor. How many wires are connected to it? Are there 3, 2, or only one with the others twisted up and out of the way? I noticed this the other day.

Actually, mine has 4 wires. 2 whites, 1 gray, 1 black. Did that up the confusion factor?

when the wires get wound too tightly (like changing a pipe without unplugging the 02 sensor completely and just turning it) the wires break...all by themselves. How eggspensive is 'vewwy egzspensive'? One for a ford is about $25.00, if memory serves....

I'm wondering if there is an aftermarket replacement for this unit? NAPA? Probably made by the Japanese anyway. I'm going to go over my unit with a magnifying lens tomorrow looking for numbers. Someone's got to make this thing besides BMW.

4 wires it is, power and return, signal and signal return.
There is a replacement and there was a post on the ST board about it. For the life of me I can't remember where or when but a search on O2 sensor replacement should find it. Ed

So.
Apparently I might have screwed up by removing the O2 sensor per certain downloaded instructions... twisting, twisting, twisting, and then twisting some more, until it came out of the cat converter? Ahhh... The old school of hard knocks wants more money I see.

If you uncover numbers like Bosch part numbers there seem to be a ton of aftermarket companies on the internet with cross references. Or Chicago BMW discounted price is $132 approx. for the OEM part.

According to the BMWsporttouring website, the 4 wire Bosch O2 sensor for a '94 R1100RSA is #13474 and can be had at Autozone for $60.00. I don't know if this is the same as the S or not, but thought I'd share the info.

MoDog:
Thanks, good info. RealOEM.com lists different part numbers for the O2 sensor for the S vs. the RS. Guess I will unplug the other end and take it to Autozone.

Sorry, go here. http://www.bmwst.com I think you might have to register to use the search function but its a cool site anyway. I wouldn't worry overmuch about slightly different part numbers or the like, unless you run into different wire color codes. These things are, at best just kinda a switch, rich/lean and don't give much valuable information in re mixture. Pretty much any one will work. Ed

Before you go, here is what I found from the BMW Parts fich.
All newer BMW's have an OEM part number 11787671756. That includes the K1200RS, R1100S, R1150GS, R1150RS. But not F650GS. That R1100RS and R1100GS had an OEM part number of 11781464492. Don't know if its actually the same or not.

My search on RealOEM came up with these numbers R1100S sensor 11781341022 $153.83 R1100RS sensor 11781464492 $153.83 (same number you got for RS) The price being the same makes me wonder...

I wonder which is right? Because the BMW parts diagram actually had two O2 sensors listed. Your part number (without price, call for info) and my part number for $164.
Or is one interchangable with the other?

I was able to run searches without registering. Didn't find it right off. Will do more searching later. Thanks much.

Moybin, don't know why but your OEM part number will not come up on the Chicago BMW site, yet mine does. Does it matter - who knows?
