Question R1200s Warranty up soon anything to look out/check for??

I got my R1200s in January with just over 5000miles on clock from local used BMW dealer, it has had its 6000mile service book stamped etc.
Its an 06' with warranty running out at end of May 08'.

My biggest concern is really how bike was treated prior to me getting it, Im sure it had one previous owner. It looked to be only ridden in dry
and overall is was in very good condition when I got it, only some light sctratches/dents on left hand rocker cover nothing else touched suggesting
a drop at stand still I think.

Is there anything to look at/check before warranty is up?
Only thing I know of to worry about is clutch, if it had been abused for 5000miles is it possible it could wear out soon? it doesn’t appear to slip
or anything to me.
Is there any way to check clutch apart from if its slipping or does it have to be stripped down?
Overall the bike appears to run fine to though this is my first boxer twin, it makes lots noises at times on start up like something is bashing something like metal to metal on start up! im sure I read the boxer is quite noisy etc.

Is the final drive really maintenance free? is the fluid likely to have beenchanged at the service? Is the gearbox oil seperate to the engine oil? Im sure I read somewhere that it was.

In running at high rpm im sure I got a funny spot at 5-6k, due to fuelling etc. The vibes seem to vary depending on weather, some days its very smooth rightthrough rev range, then over days feel very rough and vibey up in the upper rev range, does any one else get this? im sure ive had it on all my bikes something to do with the fuelling adjusting itself due to weather conditions maybe?

Am I worrying about nothing? lol I plan on having it serviced still at dealer more likely even though warranty is up, might consider doing it myself to later on if its easish!

1. OEM battery > pathetic (absolute best solution : Odyssey PC535GS).

2. Final drive/ Paralevel 3 > BMW says that's the perfect gizmo (but they said the same about Paralevel MKI and II...)

3. flat spots > blame political correctness (EU III and the likes). Motronic 11.0 build around (search related posts here). Cure : RB3 + full pipe system.

4. boxer "stressed" a bit > not a KTM/Ducati/Rotax engine I'm afraid... That means : yes there's a lot of vibes around towards the red (only solution : buy an HP2S ...he he).

5. noises at startup > not the best news around (never experienced in my R12S - 10K miles).

6. clutch > single plated thing > there's some "heavy duty" aftermarket stuff around.

WOW, only 2 years of warranty, eh? Anyway, you should have nothing to worry about... not at the mileage level you are at!

Battery will last between 4 and 6 years, depending on how you treat it... some even longer! (I still have the original Battery in my HD and that is an 01)
Final Drive is NOT maintenance free and you should change the oil around 25K miles... you might have to do it yourself or pay for it... it's a little more labor intense but worth it... I'll tap a drain hole, once I get to that point!
Flat spot... I resolved mine with the install of a techlusion... works just as well!
The engine should not gibe you ANYTHING to worry about... noises vary, mine is a bit noisier that other people's I rode with, but not so that it indicates imminent self-destruction... they are just a little noisier that your jap i-4, ESPECIALLY at start-up... get over it!

Clutch should l;ast at least 40K miles... I know some that are still in at over 100K miles...

Yeah I would imagine it neeed a fluid change at some point!

It varies the noises, like metallic clatering really oil is topped up not used any yet so hope all i well lol!

Yeah lets try not to slip it to much!

Yeah will def have final drive oil changed at some point for peace of mind!

When did BMW change their way of thinking as far as the final drive not being maintenance free? Mine is an 07 and the dealership changed the final drive fluid at the 600 mile service. Since yours is an 06, I wonder if BMW had started doing that yet, or if they were still preaching maintenance free for life?

My point is perhaps your final drive fluid was not changed at the initial service, if that is the case I would change it.

Also my bike was making valve noise before the 600 mile service; the tech said they were real loose. After the service, it ran great, and made significantly less noise.

Rob, they started that with the new (hex-head) models... the initial, 600 mile fluid change is required and after that it is supposed to maintenance free... did not quite work out and rumor has it that the shops are "encouraged" to keep a close eye on the FD's...

Okay, so the 600 has been done since day one, good.

You would not want this to happen.

they probably figure that - with all that rain - you will not get as much riding in anyway, so what the heck!
