Ohlins rebuild / add compression to front shock
Hi everyone,
With 15K on my Ohlins, I have decided to yank them off the bike and have them serviced. Done a search on "Ohlins rebuild" here. Found lots of info, seems the PPR is the shop of choice for rebuilds. I spoke with Jim (owner) on the phone today, super nice guy - seems very knowledgable - and has serviced many pairs for the S. That said, he mentioned that he can and has added compression dampening to the Ohlins front shock that only comes with Rebound dampening. He said its all Ohlins parts and he warrantees it. He can even add a hydraulic preload too. I wonder why Ohlins would not add this from the factory, at least the compression adjustment. $$$? I searched this forum to see if anyone else has had this done, but I must of missed it if it is here. That said if anyone had it done, are you pleased with it? Is the compression knob easy to get to with the body work on? Did you have to make room for it on the install? Thanks in advance, Robert M.

Good question! I've been wondering the same thing as the front really needs compression damping adjustability. How much will it cost to add this....did he say?
PS....where is PPR? Telephone number? The folks I've used in the east are in NC but I've lost even that number.

i can shed some light on that one, having been the first one to try that combo with jim.
it's basically creative thinking, plus the overall ohlins available parts manual. when you mix a different combination of the correct ohlins parts ...poof....you can create compression damping. i like it, but i'm prejudice. i raise/maintain/babysit the website for propilotsuspension dot com, so i get a monthly check. maybe jeff williams will chime in here. he's a paying customer that stepped up to the compression damping upgrade, plus he's the first person to ever get that cool hydraulic preload knob upgrade. naturally, upon hearing that jeff had a magic knob, i HAD to call jim and snivel/whine until i got one too. ya just can't let that jeff guy gap ya at all....he can be a real biitch to reel in...'specially when his suspension is working. is the compression damping addition worth it? i think so. but then again, i always felt that for the price, it should be standard in the first place. the groovy hydraulic preload adjustment knob? okay, i'd put that in the "bling" column. don't need one, but once you try one....gotta have. as always...it depends on how anal you are and how much money you can spend to be so.
