OT-swapping out wheels on F & R stands...
so it is moto related...and as silly as this sounds, i am looking to take off the cheap plastic wheels that are on my hindle front and rear stands and put some inline skate wheels, bearings and all, on there to make them easier to roll around and use. i mean, all the motoGP teams have stand with inline skate wheels...so why cant i?
finding cheap wheels and bearings is easy. just trying to figure out the best way to mount them up. figure getting a wheel as big or a tad bigger in diameter over the stock wheels, then a bolt long enough with a nut and a couple washers on each side and she will be good to go. any other ideas. also figuring on trying to do two wheels on each side over just the one...but i have to make sure i have clearance to make the inside one work. skateboard wheels might work too. something else to consider
edit: they come in varying heights and widths and you should be able to cut thru them to narrow them down if needed. bearings are bearings. whats the original wheel size? how is it mounted? pic? Last edited by Highlander179; 03-29-2006 at 09:59 AM.. |

![]() i believ ethe wheels are just pressure fitted on a crude axle at the moment. i have not really looked. i plan to measure the wheels when i get home and see what kinda wheels are on close out. seeing wheels as cheap as $2/each and bearings $1.5/each...the misc hardware i might aleady have or can pick up at home depot. unless i add a spacer, i dont think i will be able to fit a second wheel on the inside. which is not a big deal, but it would make them roll better and the action a lot smoother. repoe3

well found a cheap set of wheels and bearings off ebay. took some dimensions of the stands. there is a tube, 10mm ID, 13mm OD, welded to the stand tubes. the existing wheel slides on the tube and there is a pressed on cap retaining the wheel. so knock that off and the wheel slides off. as for putting new wheels with bearing on, need to cut the tube to shorten it a bit and then slide a bolt or piece of allthread up to 8mm in diameter (as the ID of the bearings are 8mm) through the tube, slide a wheel with bearing on each side, slap a washer on it with a nut and tighten it up. dont have any of the new parts in hand, but it looked pretty straight forward.
