time for an IROC-style sprint race?
What weapon (2-wheeled only, let's leave the MK19's and Bofors at home this time) shall we use? How about a best-out-of series? first match race can be on 1200GS's then R1200S's then K1200R's Overall loser gets spoofed by Carlton. Winner gets 4 cases of Bitberger. Then has to drink them in front of the pack...all at once ![]()

who's incorrigible. You wont find any published specs on an R11GS wieghing 496 lbs. However you will find BMW's quick reference facts sitting in my desk drawer from 1999 model year production.
You're taking this awfully personal for a matter of opinion. You think an R11GS hermaphrodite is the fastest road carver for you then so be it. Show me some time slips from the next time you're at barber or even Tally GP and then we'll have something subjective to go on and not opinion. Then it will be a matter of who's faster right and not the bikes? I'm hearing alot of double speak that the bike isn't what makes a rider fast,...but yet you're saying your bike is the fastest???? I just dont understand why Nate isnt riding an R11GS in Thunderbike or what an R11GS has to do with Nate kicking some ass on an R12S,.........man am I confused

I'm always confused.
Quick, someone put on Blue Oyster Cult's 'golden age of leather' and crank it up to 11 ![]() BTW, when I was a brand-spanking new 1100S owner (and in my defense, my first beemer, my first long ride and I was really freaked out by the feel of the telelever and slippery dunlop thingies on it) I ran into a 11GS thingie in the cascade mountains. I lost. I was rather taken aback by how hard the dude pushed it. And how fast it went. But if it would have been SIR and on my TZ250, I'm sure the results would have been different. Isn't that a horrible pix of that K12R crankcse with a broken rod? A true motorcycle 'snuff film' shot ![]()

here ya go bobby....lots of stories like this....N8 is awesome and so is his massaged S... no comparison.. ie double speak! Weights.... here ya go... this is the bike you are thinking about..http://www.micapeak.com/bmw/gs/gs_1150.htm this is my bike....http://www.micapeak.com/bmw/gs/gs_tel1.html#specifications minus stock puffer about 18 pounds, minus metal off road bits 2 pounds, minus 3 gallons at 7 pounds / gallon = 21 pounds lets add them up ....BOBBY 536 minus 18= 518, 518- 21= 497, 497-2= 495... and BOBBY SAID 580...now BOBBY does 580 = 495? Even us stupid louisiana folks know the answer to that! Like I said, stock for stock the S & GS r11xx are about equal... YOU DID NOT SAY THAT IN YOUR FIRST RESPONSE.....NOW DID YOU BOBBY? ALSO, REAL WORLD... with the mods on my bike the S has about 8 to 11 hp advantage... when you are wringing its neck... that aint enough to keep you in front of me... ASK N8 how he go faster w/ less HP... by way more than 11.... dude, the more we discuss this the sillier you look! |

My whole comments have been aimed at stock for stock and 569 is alot closer to 580 then 495. I am talking published by folks with credentials and from BMW's published specs, not DIY garage inc. with a chopper of a GS. What I do know is "I" am alot faster on an R11S then R11GS and in the tight stuff neither of those compares to my telescopic HP2 in stock trim and confirmed 425lbs with fuel. However I am willing to bet when I do take both the HP2 and R11S to their first back to back track days that I will feel faster on the HP2, but be alot faster on the R11S. Feel/thinking and being are two different entities all together there. Your results may vary,......

N8 goes faster on the same tracks with the stock R12S then on his highly tuned R11S. The R12S puts out 15hp more and he's on average 2 seconds faster per his words. So less HP doesnt mean faster every time or every track.
...what I was referring to was when he is on his R1100S, the bikes he wupps A$$ have more than an 10 hp advantage! Thereby the conclusion and a slam dunck to your assertion that a stock r1100s is fast/ better/ etc than a GS. I said it is, only on a long straight. Like I said, I am repeating your words...that 30 to 90 mph is what is needed in the mtns. The S ( stock 500 pounds as well) CAN NOT do that better than a 500 pound GS. They are for all intents and purposes equal!....or damn close to where is does not matter! In you first retort, you made it sound like the GS is an over weight slow POS.... IT CERTAINLY IS NOT>>>>>>>>>>>> BOBBY! Last edited by racegun; 07-03-2006 at 02:21 PM.. |

The troll in me is having quite a bit of fun,..........is that so wrong? We should just all subscribe to RG and my fathers philosophy that GS's are better at everything or at least equal perhaps in this case? Why does BMW make all these different models when their best selling RxxGS is the king will have me baffled for centuries.
And to imagine I had time to do an axle swap in a Jeep Liberty, clean the dually and move more of my goodies over to my girlfriends in between all of this whatever. So Nate, sorry to be playing in your sand box here, but everyone's waiting to hear from you. I'll give you a ring later from the Little River Grill!!!!! (ps I still have a few rooms available at the house if PA isn't your thing, hehe)

The bottom line is you go faster when confidence is there.I'm sure N8 is still adjusting to the 1200, and it ain't about HP.It's about confidence in the machine, knowing it's quirks and behaviour. When man and machine interface, the variables are huge.I can ride my Donkey 1100 faster at Deals Gap than riding a Gixxer 1000.But then again my Gixxer experience is lacking.
