a quick question on brake pads
searching for the correct EBC HH part number only gave me one mention, FA246HH. Can anyone confirm this as the correct part number for the front pads?

Yes, that is the correct EBC sintered pad for your year bike. There is mention on the EBC site about that pad being replaced by FA-407HH as soon as the stock runs out on the FA-246HH pads. They are identical except the new set comes with a spring clip.
EBC Brake Pads: FA335HH Front (Sintered 2001-05) w/o ABS FA294HH Front (Sintered 2001-05) with ABS FA246HH Front (Sintered 1998-2000) All FA363 Rear (organic) All Years FA363HH Rear (Sintered) All Years

Buttster, You need the spring clips to keep the pads quiet. I bought a set of 246HH's and drilled and riveted on spring clips that I removed from the worn stock beemer pads. Easy to do with a drill press and rivet gun. You might go for the pads with the clips if that's an option.

>FA294HH Front (Sintered 2001-05) with ABS
Okay, so I have an '01 w/ ABS and the FA294HH pads have a completely different backing plate than the OEM pads. Needless to say it does not align with the retaining pin. WTF?

I've been running the EBC "HH" pads w/o spring clip...no noises so far and love the bite!

Sorry Sergio, I'm clueless on your question. But I can say that I've installed the non-spring-clipped HH's and have clacking over all bumps. Annoying.

I'm as ready as the next one to "upgrade" with aftermarket, but I just can't seem to find anything wrong with the stock pads. Matter of fact, I need to replace them soon....the originals now at 40,000 miles, but I'll do it with the BMW ones.

If I might offer some unsolicited advice...don't get the OEM Replacement Brake Pads...go with the EBC HHs. From my Log File: 23SEP2006 – @39,377 Miles I replaced the Front Brake Pads with EBC Part Number #FA246HH. I put a very light coat of Anti-Seize Compound on the Pad Retainer Pins. 24SEP2006 – Went for the usual Sunday AM ride before Church…the EBC Front Brake Pads are more powerful and easier to modulate than the OEM Brembo Pads. ![]()

The winning R1200S at the Daytona 8 hour used stock brake pads, they were changed at mid race, just because, they could have easily lasted the entire 8 hours. If you noticed, San Jose's three riders consistantly out braked the rest of the field.

My experience with the EBC HHpads is not much, or maybe too much. I can tell you they grip as Roger said. They grip well enough to toss me over the handle bars right on my sorry ass. I had just put the new pads on before I got caught up in a bad situation and had to make a panic stop. I wasn't ready for the response I got from the new brakes, and the unexpected stoppie tossed me hard. I will be recovering from the spill for quite sometime. In hind site I guess I should have tested them at speed. I really didn't know that there could be that much difference in pads. Live and learn.

My experience level and riding style does not merit better brake pads at the moment. I think the stockers are fine. I'm just baffled because the backing plate for these pads are clearly not the same although the website that I ordered them from states they are for my bike w/ abs. I stopped by my local dealer and sure enough, the pads I ordered are for a non-abs bike.

Do not take too seriously
|
I don't like EBC HH pads. I think they lack initial bite and don't perform optimally untill HOT. Then they are like the proverbial brick wall.
My pads of choice are Dunlopad DP Sport HH+. These pads rock. Agressive initial bite (which I like) and consistant progressive major stopping power. Wear is ok, with very little brake dust. No rotor damage. No fading. In my experience, they will significantly outbrake EBC pads in any condition. Dry, wet, cold, hot. I have had these on all my bikes, with the same result. And with every bike I experiment to find the best pads for that particular bike. Always end up with DP. Years ago I had them on my VFR750. Not a bike known for great brakes. With these pads I could do a stoppie with 2 fingers.
