I think he was quoting shreddr's post at the top of the page. Photobucket must block that sort of thing.

Answers the age old question: How do you convert a BMW to a Ford?

(FORD = Found On Road Dead)

Sorry, that just sprang right into my little brain when viewing that picture...

Cheers! BJ

That's not a place to crash. It's just resting.

You know those photos can not always show the detail they should. Like pics of a hill, they always look better in the pic than they are in real life, or a road with rocks in it.

In the photo Ralf posted I think the road is considerably lower where I have spray painted the orange line compared to where I have spray painted the black line.

(you might want to take this time to marvel at the magnificence of my photo editing skills. )

I think the road smoothly goes up hill, dusty, covered with small stones. Yeah, the rider should not have crashed, but I can see how that road could catch someone out while they are napping. In CO this summer we were on a stretch of dirt road that was like ball bearings and sand, very slick, but looked just like any normal gravel road. Brian and I also road some really nice packed clay roads with great grip.

It was actually the 50 mph cross wind that did it... it literally took the bike from underneath me while I was leaning out to take a picture... this was on the Dempster...

Actually wind is caused by sucking and blowing at the same time, as the molecules of air move from high to low pressure areas.

Ralf I guess it's just as well it wasn't a vid. Then you'd have to relive that moment forever.

That moment is burned into my mind, Bob... either way.

Not so much because of the bike-falling-incident, but because of the grandiosity of the scenario and the unfathomable beauty of the surroundings.

While the picture does give you an idea of the expanse of the surroundings, it does not even remotely do it justice. This pictures was taken about 50 miles north of the Arctic circle on the Dempster... it is just one of the ever changing faccettes, the surroundings along the Dempster offer.

And dirt road, as far as you can see!
