Nice shots.

I am stuck in a rut photo-wise. Always shooting the same stuff, I need to get out more.

Went out for a sunset shot this evening, and got a blue sunset, that disappeared behind some clouds.

Looking toward where the sunset should be....

nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 af-s in both images. recently switched to light room for editing, and I just noticed it is not including the metadata. Will look at my settings.

That's so my fav lens. Its big and heavy but i love that thing.

On export, by default, lr will strip metadata. You can change it in the export dialog.

Yeah I fixed LR Tuesday night. The lens was on extended loan from a friend…. He claimed it back yesterday after quite some time. While it is a cool lens, I think I may get the 16-35 to replace it. I really don't have the big wide open spaces where it shines. 16-35 will take filters for my waterfall shots, which is what I like to shoot best.

The filters is a very good argument to go with the 16-35, but a wide-angle lens is not to capture everything; that pretty much results in seeing nothing (no detail), unless you print it wall size. The idea is to get really close to something for all the details and still have context. It's really hard to use it right, and I definitely still struggle. A good wide-angle shot has an interesting background combined with a close interesting subject. Then again, knowing still doesn't mean it stops me from trying to capture the enormity of a scene a lot of the time.

That can also be done by stacking images… I have looked at hundreds of images with both lenses, and weighed what lens will do what I want. Read books, and watched countless tutorials, I am still leaning toward the 16-35. Also the 14-24 takes some serious skill to get really sharp images with. I was frustrated with most of my shots. The above image with the leaning trees is a prime example. I still have a lot to learn. I know the 14-24 is the best wide angle made according to many. I will get one someday, but for now I want to try the 16-35. BTW would love for you to post more images… You live in a gorgeous place. We should be seeing more of it!

I doubted long about the 14-24 and 16-35 as well. And actually, in a lot of cases the 16-35 is the sharper lens. But in the end I tried to be honest with myself in that what I really wanted was the 14-24 and if I bough the 16-35 the main reason for me would have been the $600 price difference. So I just said feck it, you only live once and got it. Haven't regretted it. Mind you, I had severe lens lust for that one even long before I switched to Nikon and I think it probably also played a small part in getting the D800 over the 5Dmk3.

Then again, polarizers on uwa lenses don't work that well for travel photography. If I liked going into the woods and shoot waterfalls and such and had a need for polarizers and/or ND filters, I would have gone for the 16-35 in a heartbeat. It's a great lens that can really holds its own against the 14-24, it's just a little longer.
