My mom planted an Elm tree in our back yard when I was a kid... My brother (AZ-Twin) and I cut it down after she and dad passed away, because it was too big to be that close to the house, and it was damaging the roof. A friend of mine lets me use his sawmill so I cut it into lumber...then I dried it for a year in my greenhouse/garden shed. The wood had spalted and was full of color. Here are some shots of a coffee table I made for my wife. finish is a coat of boiled linseed oil, then two coats of sprayed shellac, sanded, then two sprayed coats of water based Minwax Polycrylic.

When the Superbike World Championship came to Laguna Seca a few weeks ago, they let everyone walk the track in honor of Nicky Hayden. The fellow with the flags had painted Nicky's number on the stars and stripes.
