Tranny Drain Plug Tool?

What do you guys use to remove the tranny drain plug? The manual has a drawing of a special tool. Does anyone have one or something similar that I can rent?

Thanks,

Jim,
I bought mine from Sears. You only use one of them but they come in a pack of three.

it's a 14 mm allen. If you can find a good bolt with a 14mm head and then weld a bolt onto it that might work for you. Otherwise 14mm hex stock cut down will allow you to use a 14mm wrench to remove.

I've used the same Craftsman set that jduke provided a link for, works fine just make sure you have the wrench fully engaged on the square drive.

Don't be fooled by the 17...it's a 14 as Bobby says. I got it from a Mercedes tool site. Works well but still can't use a torque wrench.

handy dandy cheap tool

i went to the bolt supply place and bought a 3/8" coupling nut.

coupling nuts are 1-3/4" long and are used to connect thread rod ends. 3/8" is 9/16" across the flats, trim it and file and grind the faces lightly till it goes into the drain plug

i got lucky, just put a 9/16" wrench on the piece sticking out and gave it a good tug and its loose.

my daughter absconded with the camera so i can't give you a picture right now

Take a 14mm headed bolt that has at least 1" of thread. Thread two nuts of the right thread onto the bolt. Tighten (jam) them together as tight as possible. Stick the head of the bolt in the drain plug and turn the upper nut to unscrew the drain plug.

or, just buy a 14 mm allen wrench, and chop a 2" length off the long end.
