I can't say enough good stuff about these guys (indysuperbikes), I ordered one and when I got it one of the mounting ears was broken off. I sent them a picture and they shipped me another one, same day, 3-day UPS, no questions asked. I'm going to be buying stuff from these guys whenever possible.

I have 2 outstanding orders for a Puig screen - one from Ridenow who confirmed that they had it in stock and charged my credit card a month ago - still no screen. OFD are nice and I am still expecting them to come through. I didn't notice any BMW screens on the indy website - Ill call them tomorrow. I've been looking for a clear one - I'll delude myself into thinking that's the holdup.... congrats on your shield.

I had my first real ride with the PUIG last week. I got out for just over an hour on a variety of different roads. I was very happy with the screen and felt much fresher getting off the bike. I had real fears about touring on the 1200S because of the fatigue that I felt after 100 miles on the bike. With the PUIG I don't think that 500+ mile days will be too bad.

...took the S out last Saturday...
...in total some 140 miles...

...this was the second time I was out using the Puig screen ; and I simply love it...
...I had lots of wind ; but you barely noticed it behind the higher screen...

...great improvement !...

I might have an extra for sale

Hi-
OFD shipped my clear screen today, but I still have an prepaid, outstanding order with ridenow.com. It is possible they will ship it as well (they drop ship), in which case I'll have a spare. If that happens is anyone interested in purchasing it? (If ridenow doesnt ship it, you can bet they'll have some in stock after I cancel.)

Woohoo! Finally got the Puig of my own:

Installation was not so perfect. Had to use file on one of the orig. clips, because top right tab on Puig was bent at slightly elongated angle and the rear of the clip kept hitting the plastic to soon to engage (the other side was ok). The fit is also not perfect, but seems stable enough.

On the bright side, it looks great and the difference in wind protection is very noticable. Rode on freeway for a speed test and got to 200 km/h (125 mph) without even noticing the wind. With OEM windshield it starts to be bothersome already at 110-120 km/h. Haven't notice any excess turbulence and the wind pressure on the helmet visor is much lessened. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't got one yet.

Beware, smoked screens are illegal in California. A buddy of mine was cited on his Buell, which came from the factory with one. (Boy, was he fuming at the CHP)

I've a clear Double Bubble that came with my R 1200 S, uninstalled. The stocker's on it, and I keep the DB as a reserve.

I installed a Puig last week and had the opportunity for a couple rides. I really like it. I was getting some good wind before around my chin at speed that gave me some helmet lift if I didn't tuck down some - that no longer exists. That trim piece at the top didn't want to follow the bottom curve of the screen at first but I put some masking tape around it for a couple days and it seems to have been trained to stay in place nicely.

Hello,

I bought one of these puig thinys the other day and when it arrived I took it round to the local garage where the bike was having its 54K service, and asked them to pop it on while it was there.

When I went to pick up the bike, it still had the OEM screen on it.

The owners son explained about the tabs being about a third of the thickness of the orginals and that even when in place, there was about a centimetre gap between the edge of the screen and the fairing edges.

He felt that trying to pull the fairing in was too much to do.

I was a little worried by the fact the invoice stated "07-09 Puig D/T Racing Screen" as my bike is a 2006.

So I had a look at RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog which only shows production dates to December 2006, which I though a little odd.

I read that sigint98 had some grief, with his/her/its [delete as appropriate] screen.

So is there a difference with 2006 and 2007 models?

Or have I got a bad one?

Or is my local garage being pedantic/cautious?

Thanks

Adrian

I also had grief with mine for the exact reasons you mentioned

Ralf (signit) gave me a good tip and that was to leave the screen out in the sun and let the plastic get nice and warm before fitting it, less chance of it cracking when you stretch/flatten the new screen out to get it to fit

the lugs are thinner but they still fasten and the front of mine that sits around the headlight was a little poor in fitting

others have done a bit of dremmelling to get them right

I doubt you have the wrong screen - can't blame the guy for not wanting to fit it as he'd have been up for another screen if it had cracked and they do need a bit of stretching, mine looked like it was the wrong screen too

but as I used to say in the hardware game to customers "If it jams, force it and if it breaks it needed replacing anyway"

i had one exactly the same. It was too narrow for the gap but it did stretch and fit quite easily. The problem occurred after the ride. I washed the bike as usual and put it away with no issues. The next time i got the bike out there was a 10cm crack in the middle of the screen. I have read that this has happened to others on various forums, so it seems that if you are unlucky the stretch placed on the screen can cause it to crack

I'd send it back. I bought one in 2010 and it wasn't a perfect fit but nowhere near what you guys are talking about. If you have to force it that much then I'd say you got a faulty one! Just sayin!

As per Ralf, I recommend installing on a hot day... or preheating the windscreen in some fashion... so it can stretch a bit and flatten out in the space provided.

Other than that, the fit is OK. I've installed two now and although the tabs are thinner, they are perfectly functional.

Why two? The first one split down the middle after a few hundred KM. Puig first rejected my claim saying I'd used an inappropriate cleaning solution. WTF? Then, with photos provided, cooler heads prevailed and - although it took one full year - I eventually received a replacement.

With all the reports about poor fit and cracking on these Puig screens, I don't know why anyone would buy one. They're obviously an badly made piece - especially if it take a year to receive restitution for a defective product.
I'd rather send it back to them in a box, packed tight with cow $h*t to make sure no futher damage occurred during shipping.

MRA looks like it is available here;

TwistedThrottle.com : MRA Double-Bubble RacingScreen Windshield for BMW R1200S, '06- - MRA.07.018.R

I have a Puig and have had no problems so far.

Cheers
