PUIG: got it to work, its “staying” home

Gentleman:

I apologize to all for being too quick about my assessment regarding the fitting problems/returning issues with the PUIG double bubble windscreen, it is true that it does not fit in as easy as the stock screen (which still bothers me, for I like things done right and to work properly). However, on second go around, combined with a better attitude and greater amount of patience (thanks to going to Church today) it only needed a bit of “Dremel” or filing work on the tabs to clear off some excess plastic, which was causing the improper fit (about 10 minutes worth of time). Once this was accomplished, the PUIG fit in and looks identical to that of Rolo’s PUIG. Anyway, I feel at $92.42, plus ten minutes of time to fit and adjust, and the advantage of better wind protection because it is a double bubble (the BMW dark screen is the same as stock and costs about $250.00) the PUIG is a bargain. Again, sorry for any worries or concerns to those who have ordered one.

color and pics

Hi,

I'd love to see a picture of the screen (you got the smoke color?) Was the carbon color lighter? Yellow or orange might be nice on a silver bike... Glad it worked out!

I got the "light smoke" - wanted a bit of bling (will post pics tomorrow), which for my taste complements the gray/silver paint, but also provides me with that "kind of" open, unobtrusive, its not "so much" there sensation, when riding (just a personal preference thing).

ROLOO, Your so right, and thanks again for turning me onto the PUIG. As mentioned, I am providing photos to mn2007 of the "light smoke gray" PUIG, not great photos but effective.

Thanks for the Pics

Your bike has a bit of 'bling' already- different fairing and tank cover (and looks like black rims, too.) I think stock would look nice with black valve covers (if anyone has this config id like to see it.)

Here's some other color options- I think smoke (or carbon / dark smoke) would be cool, too. Like your bike!

Glad to see you got it straightened out as I'd already ordered one before I found out about the fitment problems you experienced. For what it's worth, I ordered one from Ridenow.com and received the following confirmation:

Code Description Qty Price Extended
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
301537 BMW R1200S '07 Windscreen Dark Smoke 1 $74.66 $74.66
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SubTotal: $74.66
Tax: $0.00
Shipping: $10.95
Insurance: $0.00
-------------------
Total: $85.61
Now as long as I actually get it things will be fine.
Bill

i dig that gray 2-tone! I have the titan grey pillion cover on my black R12, and am going to do my tank center to match so I will have the black and silver combo. i'm gonna leave the "face" black though

“Cloudy”, I am glad that you got a great/better deal on the PUIG for $85.61, that’s great (also, I feel that the Puig is one of the few, if “any” reasonable priced accessory items out there for the 12S, a true bargain!)

“Roloo”, thanks again for introducing me to the PUIG, also, glad that you like my 12S for you seem to be a man of good taste and refinement (based on the photos of your “tastefully done” machines, and the photos of your surrounding area!).

As for the two tone gray/silver, it was originally yellow/gray; however the dealer swapped the yellow panels with a silver one, thus the black wheels. As for the “Black S decal” on top of the tank, I placed it there to cover a “slight blemish”, which went unnoticed when I took delivery, anyway it covers the blemish, while “kind of” maintaining that factory/O.E.M/it should be there look.

Where to get the PUIG? Well, Cloudy (above member) got his a bit cheaper from “Ridenow.com” @ $85.61, total price including shipping. Whereas, I got mine from OFD Racing /tel.# 877-478-9633 @ $92.42 total price including shipping, also it took me about a months to get.

ordered

I ordered one from OFD (they are sort-of local) and I figured with a special-order item it seems odd ordering online without confirming it with a human. Strangely OFD did not want a deposit from me - I usually like to front some cash so they pressure is on them to deliver, but I'll find out soon enough. I spoke with Dean@ OFD.

ps - has anyone added a screen that protects the oil cooler? How does it attach? (Im assuming silicone...)

pps - the Hornig windshield option (whole new fairing) looked pretty good, too. The screen is bolted on.

.

i got one from wunderlich and ordered it through an australian retailer called motohansa...you remove the front fairing and bolt it on to the frame / front area of the bike (there is adjustment there to get it right), someone has painted theirs black instead of the gray colour (my bike is black so i like the contrast on the black bike leaving the cooler guard metallic gray)

someone else made up there own - best to search for oil cooler guards/screens i think

Made my screens from heavy duty SS screening. Hand formed the pieces and used hot glue to attach them about 12K miles back. They do keep the bugs out, but as can be seen from the photo's, need cleaned on a routine basis. Used the same materials/approach to replace the "vent screens" on the sides of the rear cowling, which you can just see in the last photo..
