How to drop weight from your R1200S
![]() This kit will loose 28.5kg's or some 63lbs and if I read it correctly a lot of money ![]() Aluminium front and rear frame and fuel tank, glass fibre parts and no telelever...so basically a HP2 Sport but still more then 20 kg's lighter |

Would be interesting to put that aluminium frame and öhlins front fork on the HP2 Sport...just to compare the two bikes

At 396# dry wt now, losing the telever weight would do it some good on reductions. The AL tank wouldn't net much gain over the plastic now on the bike with the cf shroud. IMHO.

Well the R1200S weighs 470 lb wet, the HP2 Sport 440 pounds.
Loosing 63lbs from the R1200S means 407lbs which is still 33lbs lighter then the HP2 Sport (and I don't think this bike has lightweight rims),,,would be interesting to see what is possible ![]() What is also interesting to mention is the converted R1200S has German roadpapers so it is no pure racing bike |

Can't say that I like the look of the new bodywork...
...but it is interesting. Has any company or fabricator built a front steering subframe that will convert to the K12's Duolever? Ohlins Forks, as well as ohlins in a telelever are no doubt fantastic, but I've always wondered what duolever on an R12S would be like. Duolever, Paralever, and a DOHC boxer HP2S engine in a mainstream bike (rather than an expensive HP special model) would be quite a machine. Especially if it were styled like the R12S or the half-faired K12 bike, And as sport touring practical as the R11S for bags or pillion, or neither. |

the interesting thing is that it looks like all or none. I guess once you put that upper frame member on, the stock tank probably doesnt work, nor will the stock body panels. I wonder if you could get ohlins USD forks that would bolt in place of the lower telelever, and use a new clamp on the top, and just take the shock out. I know its blasphemy, but it would be interesting to see. and yes i will get my check book out, buy all the parts and take pictures of the abomination and post them here!

think about it, it would work with the right clamping surface on the fork leg, you might have to put a solid strut in place of the shock, to keep the force off the underside of the top clamp. As far as what they did, they perimeterized the R12 frame, and made it look very familiar.

hope that I'm not offending anyone...but this extra light thing is rather a visual atrocity...or/and a rat bike. PS: light bulb > since (rumor is) that titanium prices are expected to fall (approx 0.005%) ...how about to order a 100% titanium boxer motor? (and/or bike) That could save kilo(s) and boost ego(s) in equal measure (I assume). He He

Heck 63lb’s is a good bit of fat trimmed off. However, as good as these mods might be, it’s to funky looking /Buell designed it. In my opinion, if one is going to go to this length of modifying and spending $$$, FOGETABOUTIT and just get an HP2, MV or Ducati, if not take this extra money and take a nice vacation, or better yet donate it a worthwhile organization like, “The unwed mothers of Dana Point”, which I am chairman and treasurer of.

Isn't Tele-Lever the tool used by N8! to beat the normally suspended bikes into and through the corners? Seems a terrible idea to delete this feature IMO.
