R1000..street version is coming
Seen tested at the Albacete circuit (with apparantly Michael Schumacher riding it!):
![]() ![]() Motorrad today mentioned that the bike may have radial valves; it may have a similar set-up like the HP2 Sport (so with small rockers) because the rockers were very small and F1 alike... |

Another note: it was riding against a Honda CBR 1000RR and apparently after coming out of corners gained several meters of distance on the Blade...

The gas tank looks big and the pax seat comfy.

I see quite a few similarities between the HP2S and this bike... hopefully it'll have some decent mirrors though.

Does the prefix "R" not mean opposed twin anymore in the BMW lineup?

That's the S1000RR but street version, so S1000R? - if I am not mistaken...and Schuey binned one.
That's what I read anyway. Here is the link to the pics and goss http://www.i-bmw.com/showthread.php?t=18339 Last edited by chewie; 10-24-2008 at 08:07 PM.. |

I'd be interesting to see if this I4 has any soul to it like the R's, but I doubt it would. It'll probably rev/feel just like a japsicle though I bet the engineers/marketers will spend a bunch of time/money developing a uniquely Bee-Emm-Vay exhaust note to distinguish it from the rest of the pack.

Bad news : the new 09 R1 (90 degrees crankshaft) and/or the E-ABS Blade and/or the Immortal Gixxer and/or the lethal ZX-10R and/or the RC8 (for mortals) and/or an...old 998S.
Good news : the ...erm...tasteful...paint job (is there any pink option?) And given (again) the opportunity my question (again): 10 years ago when the 916 appeared...erm...105 bhp would be more than enough (mere mortals - Valentino apart). What happened since? Marketing hype, marketing hype or marketing hype?

Funny about the name; the official website says S1000RR and the Spanish website says R1000SS which for sure NEVER will happen (the double S thing)...
Yes BMW is going for the "normal" 4-in-line but apparently it produces a lot of torque; will be interesting to see the comparison between the new R1 with big-bang engine and the BMW with (probably) double VANOS... |

That 09 R1 motor is a crossplane crank thing (bang-270 degrees-bang-180 degrees-bang-90 degrees-bang-180 degrees-bang). Crossplane motors were originally developed for V8 US muscle iron.

these pictures have actually put me off a bit, although it looks nice there is really nothing that says BMW to me. if they have to rely on a paint job and roundel to communicate that, then something has been lost. looking at this makes me want an HP2S even more. on a positive note, at least I have one less option up for consideration. I really want to test ride a Megamoto on my favorite section of twisties...

Figures they'd stuff double VANOS in there; I wonder how many other electronic crap it will come with.

Samurai-beemer...
Looks nice to me for BMW's first attempt to build their own version of a GSXRR1ZX.
If they price themselves not too far out of the game, which is not easy due to melting-$ and it has ABS and real traction control that works then they have a chance in this game where the japanese play the drum-beat. The Blade gets ABS for 09,Yamaha a different sound from 90 degree spced out crank yournals like every regular bread and butter V8.Ferrari uses 180 degree cranks that is why the sound like two old R1 engines together running on stereoids... Nothing new here petef even if you read so in BIKE magazine... ![]() I won't buy an S1000RR anyways as without tits, bicycle chain,no rack, bags and centerstand it's not of real interest for me anyways... ![]() But if Corser and Xaus will win on those things, good for the image, and hopefully BMW finally have proved the world that they can build real sport,sport,sport-bikes and can finally build a real Sportouring boxer... ![]() And the squids can look forward who is the fastest in the latest magazin shootout to look good riding downtown in flipflops and shorts to their local watering hole... ![]() And who cares if the S1000RR pulled away from the CBR1000RR.For 99.9% of the motorcycle riding public only of importance at the local watering hole... ![]() But anyways finally BMW grew the balls to compete with the best from japan and italy in top level racing without making any excuses. That's great so see and I wish them luck. Even if the bike is a little too conventional for my taste...without tits,no BMW ![]() |

This is the first time I've noticed what may be a voluminous exhaust collector under the bike.
