Post Official WSBK S1000RR news!

News from BMW, their WSBK racer has 200+hp @ 14000 rpm and.... wait for it....
Dry weight 162Kg. =1,19Hp/Kg!

Any thoughts?

168kg = 369.6lbs. I wonder if this is the normal BMW dry weight.....to include no fluids or battery. 23 liters is 6 gallons which equates to about 36lbs. Add in a gallon of coolant and brake fluids for another 8lbs, a 20lb battery and you're at 434 lbs give or take. Just to compare, my Paul Smart weighs about that, and my R12S about 475. Special K is a whopping 575. Anyone know what a race prepped GSXR-1000 or a 1098R weighs sitting on the starting line ready to go?

Would be nice to know how far north of 200hp this bike has, and what kind of traction control it has. Interesting times. I hope they can afford to race develop the thing.

Clearly the HP figures are to be expected as 200+. The stock S1000RR in full emission and noise compliant form is something like 193 at the crank. I expect something like 220 or so in WSB form, could even approach that at the rear wheel.

I couldn't agree more that WSB is going to be great this year.

Garage
later today i will print out an official looking piece of paper with my logo at the top (and a reference to Page 4), stating that my pick-up truck has 1000+ horsepower...and the weight will be 210 kegs, wet or dry, sunny or cloudy, warm or cold.

then i will sell the truck on craigslist and get a gazillion dollars.

shoulda thought o' this a long time ago...

I just noticed....wet sump. I guess they're going for low CG, but there are disadvantages to this too...no? Special K is a dry sump bike, fwiw.

It'll have to have 220 at the rear wheel to have any kind of hope, were the rub is(unfortunately) is how good their traction control is at looking after the rear tyre, because thats what it's come down to,Ducati have the best ,as opposed to the fastest bike, and hence they are were they are.,Monza will be were we find out who's got what in the HP stakes.

Really? Don't do it brad. Nobody'll fall for that and then your name will be Pariah and you won't be able to get a job and people will laugh when you walk by.

With BMW's racing automobile racing experience, I would think they will come out of the gate with a serious electronics package. Along with their automobile racing experience will be the ability to take the bike's data and the riders input and become competitive very quick. I predict more than one podium finish their first season.

Looks impressive but I wouldn't expect too much from the first season, The Duke's will no doubt be a long way ahead at the start.

I'm more with Luke than jduke on the Dukes.
Seriously, the Ducs having an advantage early season seems a no brainer.
Under what scenario would BMW, with a new bike, and no data, be ahead of Ducati, who
has one of the top riders on the grid, and the most data, and very arguably the best bike and most experienced race team? Not saying BMW won't eventually do well, and I hope they do, but 'dream on' hardly seems fitting to a guess that Ducs will do better than beemers early on.
I could be wrong.

I guess I should have put a smiley face beside my "Dream" comment.....
I know who the bike to beat is, but I still think BMW will impress us all and get on the podium more than once this season. Maybe even sneak a win in somewhere??
Of course I hope Nicky is there every race this season too.

Yep....that's a toughie. Who to root for.....Nicky or the Beemers. I guess it really doesn't matter who I root for though, huh? So I'll cheer for 'em both.
